Entertainment Center cooling
All,
I have an Entertainment Center with my HTPC, XBOX etc. I bought a 14CM PC cooling fan to cool my overall case. I need a way to power the fan without running it through the HTPC. I'd like to put a switch on the fan to turn it off/on independantly. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!! -Silk |

My solution was to take a jigsaw and cut the back out of the entertainment center.
Do you have any extra "wall wart" power adapters laying around. You could try one that outputs around 5 to 12 vdc and hook up an inline switch. Make sure that it can handle the amps required by the fan. |

Second the "wall wart" idea. I've used this approach and it works well.
If you don't have one handy, you can get a "universal" one at Radio Shack where you can change voltages and thus control the fan speed.

I used to have a router that would overheat if I tried to do a wireless file transfer. I cut a hole in the plastic and rigged an old 80mm fan to an AC/DC power Adaptor that I had no idea what it even went to anymore. It worked great. I just hacked off the plug of the AC Adaptor and hacked off the motherboard connector off the fan and wired them together. The closer to 12v, the more air will be moved (and the louder it will run).

Thanks
I had the same notion, i just wanted to make sure there wasn't a pre-made adapter somewhere.

Checkout www.rocklerpro.com. They have 80,90,119mm that are prewired for 110/120v. They come with finger guard and media filter.
