Is it me?

I have been using Sage since v.2.x ... Is it me or is Sage getting more buggy as new versions come out? Don't get me wrong, I know that we are getting more and more features and with complexity comes challenges, but I find myself for the first time considering just hanging back on older version or even trying something else in frustration.

Just wondering if I am the only one with these thoughts??

Thanks, T.

My opinion is that it is a Yes and a No.

For the base functionality that existed in 2.x, I think the reliability has improved. The somewhat buggy parts are in functionality added since.

I even find myself using the betas on an everyday basis on the main system with very little annoyances.

I too have been using Sage since 2.0 came out. I am running 6.1.9 and have no problems whatsoever. I don't use Placeshifter, but otherwise I transcode, use MVP's, etc. with no problems. I do think that as things have been added, it has taken a couple of "revisions" before the new features become rock solid, but with 6.1.9, I haven't seen any issues.

I've been using SageTV since 2.1, and I have to completely agree with Paul. I used to regularly lose recordings, which is probably the most maddening thing a PVR can do to you. I had to work around or live with a number of bugs and limitations. I still have over 150GB of old recordings in the Import library, instead of the Recordings list where they belong. But I really liked Sage then, and it has only gotten better with time. I haven't lost a recording in a long time. Sure, there have been 'shakeout' periods with almost every new feature, but that's normal to all software. There will always be something to live with. For me currently, it is major studder in my viewing, all SD.

Plus, with all the new features, there are many more sources of problems now than before. I don't do Placeshifting, MVP's, or HD yet, waiting for more money and more HD stability and user satisfaction with the whole HD experience.

There is such a wide variety of hardware, and users use Sage in many different ways. I think everyone has gone through rocky periods at times, and if you haven't before, then perhaps it's your turn? Sorry!

It's just my subjective opinion, but I believe there are less problems now than there used to be, at least as reported on the forums. It may be related to my own experience, but I think there is more general satisfaction with SageTV now than ever before. We never stop waiting for newer and better, of course.

I also should point out that now Sage is supporting an even greater number of devices. I remember when I started with Sage, the limitations on hardware was about a dozen SDTV hardware encoders. I have used 6 different capture devices in the type of I have usaged Sage (Avermedia M150's, Avermedia Purity 500, Hauppauge PVR500, FusionLite 5, HDHomerun), 5 of which weren't even supported in 2.0. That's a lot more hardware to "get right".
