Wink PLEASE!! get Placeshifter working with Archos 604/704 WiFi

It's supposedly been put on the official "wish list", but I wanted to see how many other people might like to have a wireless WiFi video player.

Archos recently released the 604 & 704 WiFi
http://www.archos.com/products/video/archos_704wifi/

It would be just TOO COOL if Placeshifter (Linux) could be made to work on this device.

This would indeed be a very interesting device to make work with Sage.

I am torn - would I simply want it to have a PlaceShifter use, or would I really want to use it as a full fledge client ??? The wireless network connection would somewhat limit a full fledge client, but it would be awesome to use it to watch a show, imported video or a DVD on the deck, by the pool.

Unhappy It'd be nice...but....

Yeah, that would be sweet.

Unfortunately, Archos is some sort of backwards neolithic company that doesn't believe in supporting independent development for any of their products (at least the 04 and 05 lines).

They provide no API's, no ability to write plug-ins, no ability to replace / extend the OS...nothing. It is highly unlikely that anyone would be able to write a placeshifter for the Archos series.

Archos did release the source for the O/S (they had to as it was based on some GPL'd code), but they did not release their proprietary bootloader.

Until someone cracks that, we're up a certain creek without a paddle.

Alternately, complain to Archos. If enough customers start indicating that their next purchase will be a device will one that can be extended by the community, then maybe they'll make some changes....
