HD Extender - Yeah, I am going to ask it

I truly, truly, truly do not want to take away from the public beta announcement. I continue to very, very much appreicate your upgrade policy and the new beta looks like it has a whole bunch of little goodies to address things here or there I have been experiencing. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

However, given it is the last business day of the second quarter of 2007...

narflex, is there any chance of getting our expectations for the HD extender revised? Something to renew that "I am looking forward to..." feeling?

Sorry to poke you on what is probably one of your more bothersome pain points.

I'm just going to bump this. For the powers at be, even if it is Q2 of '08, can we just get an ETA?

Sage is usually extremely tight-lipped when it comes to releasing information on future products. But, I think the times when they did release information it took a pretty long time for the products to come to market. Weren't MVP support and Studio long promised before they finally came out? And I think I vaguely remember checking Sage's site for months waiting for SageTV v2 to come out.

I do find it a little annoying though. I don't think the secrecy is really warranted. Especially now, when the 2Q release that was alluded to earlier has come and gone.

But hey, what do I care? I don't have any HD tuners anyway!

I would agree with this. You don't want to give release dates, fine. But don't give a date (or range), then provide teasers (enjoying my HD Extender in my living room as I test) and finally miss your date entirely with out a peep about what is going on.

A simple "Sorry we are going to miss the estimated date we gave you and at this point we are not really sure when it will be out" would have been appreciated.

I also am eagerly awaiting the HD extender, but I would rather miss the release date then get a box of bugs on time.

Sage might miss a few deadlines, but the product is awesome. Don't take this as a defense to Sage, I agree that they should not have given a date at all unless they knew they would make it.
But they have given me a good enough product to overlook this transgression...

The "problem" is that Sage is small. If Sage were a large corporation, news about the HD extender would get out. The company would have to release information for distributors ahead of time. If there were problems with an upcoming product, either distributors would be notified and/or someone inside the company would leak it. But since Sage is small, they have the luxury of being secretive.

I'm really curious what's going on. Is the hardware device not available? Are there problems getting the Sage miniclient working on it? I don't care too much about a lack of release dates, I just wish they would make up for it by posting some updates.

DVD Maniac-
I like Sage too, and its product has served me well for about 4 years now, but I wouldn't say they've ever exceeded my expectations. Sage certainly has its flaws, but there's a small community on these forums that is readily willing to work around those flaws, or overlook them entirely.

Parts for a full PC client are getting inexpensive enough that I'm considering building one instead. always wanted a 42" PC 'monitor.' Downside is I'd have to fight the wife for screen time.

I'm not so sure that the lack of information works to their advantage. I would expect some sort of message when the original ga date is not met.

Now, no news is more like bad news.

Or, of course, the release is imminent.

Maybe they are all home watching HD via their extenders and have lost the will to move on because the picture is mesmerizing?

Seems reasonable for there to be a revised estimate since it has come and gone. It would be a very nice gesture for all of those waiting to buy.

Well, I sure hope it comes out soon. A power outage a few days ago killed my Roku HD 1000 (Photobridge) which I was using to watch HD material in my living room.

My Mom was down visiting so I had to dumb down my AV setup so that she could probably work the Tv.(she still had troubles) That meant turning on the TV's speakers and turning off my amp for sound. I didn't find out the Roku was dead until after she left on Wednesday when I tried to watch the HD episode of Traveler and the Roku wouldn't power up. So I had to watch it transcoded on the MVP in the bedroom.

Now the question is whether to send it into Pyramid Audio for repairs or wait for the HD Extender?

Come on Sage, release that bugger!

Yeah the iphone will keep you busy for about a week. But then you will be asking yourself where are those HD extenders?

Trust me, been there, done that.

I am almost considering going to Windows MCE so that I can use an HD extender to my HDTV. Come on Frey we need and HD extender!!! Even a little bit of news on the extender would really help. I love the SageTV software and would love to have and HD extender for my HD TV. unfortunatly for my situation a full blown computer for playback of HD on my TV isnt going to happen. My mediaMVP has worked great for over a year but I need HD now.

Please let us know what it going on.
