observations and questions about conflict management using SageMC

Hi there,

So I've got one PVR150 card and am trialing Sage to see if I can get my wife to accept it over the TiVo. I'm using a MVP connected to my TV.

Please forgive my constant mention of TiVo. That's all I'm used to. Despite it's flaws, it has excellent conflict resolution.

I currently am running the MC16x9 STV. It's showing the "conflict" icon, at the top of the screen. It's a small TV w/ a yellow screen with an exclamation mark in it.

The Sage manual says that I can click on this icon to get to the conflict resolution screen. However, with the MVP, I cannot click on it. And if I VNC into my server and try to click on the icon, nothing happens. On the server, I switched to the default STV, and I see that feature does work.

So far, I've found that the only way to manage conflicts is to go into the recording schedule & look for shows that are flagged with the conflict icon. Is there another way? I see in the default STV that there is a "manage recording conflicts" option, but I can't find that option in the MC16x9 to create a custom menu item to. I tried both of the ones that mentioned conflict, but neither worked.

It seems that if there is a conflict between a manual recording and a favorites recording, I don't get warned when I set the manual recording. Then, if I go to the schedule and find the conflict, the only option to resolve the conflict is to stop the manual recording. There's no option to just have the manual recording override the series recording and clear it that way.

If I create a new series recording, and some of the episodes for it conflict with an existing series recording, I don't get notified of that at all. Is there a way to change this behavior?

Is conflict resolution something that is done through the STV interface or the SageTV core software?

Thanks.

Todd

Welcome to Sage. One of the most helpful things to do while evaluating this software is consult the manual. Most questions about Sage will be answered there.

In SageMC got to My Tv-Schedule and click the top button that probably says "All" It will cycle thru "Conflicts" and "Premieres".

A lot of times Sage will not thow up a conflict becasue it knows it can record the same program sometime in the future and will schedule that instead of a conflict.

Conflict resolution is done thru the core. SageMC has an option to handle it a little differently if you want. That's in SageMC Options-Main-Std Conflict resolution.

I think you've noted yourself that the manual only covers the default STV. SageMC operates quite differently; since most of these questions concern how to handle conflicts in a custom STV, I've moved it to the customizations forum.

From the rest of the post, it sounds like SageMC and the default STV handle conflicts quite differently... llike they do for many other things.

The STV is responsible for presenting the users with a list of shows that SageTV is unable to record for whatever reason & options for what to do with those conflicts.

And, as Gerry mentioned above, if a Fav can be rescheduled to record any one of its airings for an episode, there will be no conflict for that episode since it will be recorded _sometime_.

Hi Gerry,

Yeah, I've been reading the manual. That's how I found out that that icon is clickable. One issue though is that the manual doesn't seem to address much the differences between interfacing with Sage on a computer vs through a MVP.

Under SageMC Options -> Main, there is no Conflict Resolution option. Under Icons & Images, I see that I can disable the conflict icons, but I'm not sure that's what I want.

My SageTV version is 6.1.9.146, my java version is 1.6.0_02, and my SageMC version is 6.3.3.c. As far as I can tell, those are the latest versions, at least of Sage and MC.

In SageMC, is there a way to get to the Recording Conflicts menu? I can't seem to find it, nor how to add it.

Thanks.

Todd
