Looking for AVI Editing Software

I am looking for AVI editing software. I edit MPEG2 files with VideoReDo, and then transcode them into Xvid AVI files.

I would now like to be able to edit the AVI files I created. I already deleted the original MPEG2 files, so I cannot use VideoReDo, which cannot edit AVI files.

I tried VirtualDub, but it created a huge 8 gig file for only a 3 minute segment.

Can anyone recommend AVI editing software?

Virtualdub will do it, but you need to make sure that you are not saving to uncompressed rgb video (either stream copy, but i am not sure you can edit in this mode, or re-encode to xvid)

Otherwise look at www.videohelp.com

Nielm,

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! That is a very helpful website!

I found the problem I was having using VirtualDub and fixed it.

Here are the instructions to edit Xvid AVI files:

Select under Audio->Direct Stream Copy.
Select also under Video->Direct Stream Copy.
Select the first part by(see image below):
1. Drag the bar to the start
2. Select Start
3. Drag the bar to the end
4. Select End
Last save the the new clip with File->Save as AVI. It will only take some few minutes to cut the DivX/AVI.

When I start VirtualDub, "Video" defaults to "Full Processing Mode" instead of "Direct Stream Copy". I just changed "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy".

The difference is huge. A Xvid AVI clip that is 4 minutes, 38 seconds is 7,056 megs with "Full Processing Mode" and 69 megs with "Direct Stream Copy".

The Xvid AVI quality from the edited clip is good on my SD 60" screen.

Thanks again Nielm for you help!

Dave
