Thumbs down No Full Screen!

When SageTV starts (I selected to start in full screen mode) it only uses about a fourth of my TV screen. If I minimize it and then right click on it and select "Maximize" it comes up about the same size but with a big black bar down the right side of the window. Do I need to change my resolution settings or what?

Thanks

I have the following questions:

1.How is your tv connected to you HTPC?

2.What video card?

3.Does both the UI and the video use only a quarter of the screen?

4.Does M$Windows take up the whole screen or, is your only problem with sage?

Unhappy

TV is connected S Video. Video card is Radeon X1600. Yes, UI and Video only part of the screen. Windows XP Pro uses the entire screen.

Thanks,
Ron

Do you have 2 monitors & is the other monitor set to a lower resolution? If so, then I think this can happen when you have 3D acceleration enabled in SageTV.

If this is the case, you can 1) close SageTV & reopen it while using it on the monitor where you want it to run full screen, or 2) while SageTV is on the monitor where the issue is, go to Detailed Setup -> Advanced & toggle 3D Acceleration off & back on.

It's odd that your saying the MS Desktop displays using the entire screen but SageTV doesn't. What happens if (from the desktop) you load a DVD and tell the player to go FULL SCREEN?

Also, please tell us the following...

FROM THE DESKTOP: OPEN 'Control_Panel>Display' and 'Settings' Tab
1) Number of displays showing in the window. (If more that ONE, then click on each display number for question #2 below, hit CANCEL if prompted)
2) What is the Video Resolution (nnn x nnn) and Color depth (nn bit)

IN SAGE:
3) What happens when you switch SageTV to Windowed mode or FULL SCREEN MODE <CTRL-SHIFT-F>
4. Are you using OVERLAY or VMR-9 (Detailed Setup > Video/Audio)
5 Full Screen Exclusive Mode ENABLED/DISABLED? (Detailed Setup > Advanced)

Do you have a Hauppauge PVR-350 in your system and is Sage set to output the UI to the 350 even though you are not actually using it as your output device?

I probably need to clarify how sage is opening. It is opening in a window and I can still see the desktop in the background. Now - I'm going to try and answer your questions one step at a time.

If I load a DVD it asks if I want to play it with Media Player. I can select Play and media player opens in a window and I can select full screen and it goes full screen (no desktop in background). Then after I close Media Player and open SageTV and select to Play DVD - It opens in a window, when I click the full screen icon in the top right of the menu bar, nothing happens. If I minimize the window, then right click on the SageTV bar and select Maximize - then the video display is the SAME window size and the rest of the background is all black (no desktop in the background).

The resolution of number 1 (default monitor on radeon x1600 series) is: 1024 X 728; with the Color Quality: Highest 32 bit.

#2 display shows to be Not Active. But when I click on it -the display bare says: 2. Default monitor on radeon x1600 secondary. The resolution and color quality show the same settings as the #1 display.

I was using "Overlay" and I switched it to "Default". NOW when I click the "Window" in the top right of the menu bar - still nothing happens - *BUT* - NOW when I minimize the window and right click on SageTV and select "Mazimize" it comes up in FULL SCREEN. So - This did improve things - maybe. SageTV UI still appears only in a window when I stop the video with the rest of the screen all black. I'm not really sure WHAT is going on.

I do have the "Advanced" setting to open SageTV in "Full Screen"

I hope you can make sense of this explanation.

Thanks for your help.

Ron

I take it from this question that you - Do have a Hauppauge PVR-350 card in your system? If so and you have it set to output the UI to the PVR-350 outputs then you will find a window that cannot be resized on your Windows desktop. Go into "Detailed setup>Multimedia>Enable TV Out for PVR-350" and "Detailed setup>Multimedia>Enable UI on TV Out of PVR-350" are they both enabled/disabled? Try disabling them and see if your problem goes away. But if you do not have a Hauppauge PVR-350 in your system those options will not be visible in Detailed setup and would not be causing your problem.

ronhenderson2m,

BobPhoenix's question (above) presumes you have a Hauppauge PVR-350 capture card in your system. If this is not the case, can you tell us what type of capture card you do have?

...and since I don't have a clue about what might be causing this, except to say that I didn't know that S-Video could carry a 1024x728 signal, I'm hoping that others on the forum can help you.

EDIT: Ron, not that this makes the slightest bit of difference but, are you have a display monitor (1024x768) AND an S-Video cable to a SD? HD? Normal? Wide? screen TV? If so, could you clarify.

I also asked previously if you had "Detailed_Settings>Advanced>Full Screen Exclusive Mode set as Enabled or Disabled. This is an actual setting inside of the SageTV setup screen. Enabling or disabling this option might change the way your S-Video display reacts.

This took care of it. Thank you all very much for your help.
