getting audio dropouts (being caused by video hardware acceleration)
i'm getting intermittent audio dropouts where in live tv playback will be perfect then out of the blue the audio will drop for a split second.
everthing had been running perfectly but before i noticed this i made a couple of big changes. i added more ram (ram is checked and good) added a new HDD and added a new video card. the other two changes were installing ati cyberlink dvd and uninstalling nvdvd and windvd. amongst these revisions i have introduced this darn audio problem and it's driving me nuts. anyone got any ideas? the sound is onboard by spdif output btw. i think it's more of a system problem than a sage problem thanks, nick Last edited by GbrNole; 01-13-2004 at 07:02 AM. |

intel 845.
the audio was perfect until i went and screwed around the other day by adding and removing stuff. the one thing that has happened sage wise though is that when putting sage to sleep on a couple of occasions now an error box has appeared notifying me that sage has encountered problems is creating an error log and will be shutting itself down. where can i access the error log info? |

that's strange because sage uses it's own directory to write log files. Do you have enough drive space left on the device you installed sage on? My chipset is Nforce and I had the exact same problem as you with the audio dropouts, but changing the Mobo drivers fixed things. Sorry I can't be of more help.

i have plenty of space - 35 gigs on the drive where sage is installed and 100 gigs on the slave drive where i record to.
which exactly is the log file? is it the wiz.bin file or something else? |

May or may not help you, but I had a problem when my audio would drop out then the picture would freeze and it all would go back to normal.. I solved it by choosing different hard drive controller drivers.

ok - i managed to isolate what i believe is the majority of the problem but it was so late when i figured it out that i didn't get a chance to test for a long period of time.
turns out that when hardware video acceleration is turned on my audio goes haywire, it was actually worse last night than it had been previously. the problem is not limited to sage, the same audio problem also exists when i try to play back dvd movies in any dvd player with hardware acceleration enabled. as soon as i disabled the hardware acceleration (in powerDVD) the audio then played back perfectly for the couple of dvd's i tested with and was working fine in sage while watching live tv. now the next question is - what in the heck is causing the problems with hardware acceleration??? i just installed a radeon 9500 and upgraded the drivers to cat 3.1, which do you think might be the most likely culprit here, the card or the drivers? anyway it's working for now but the lack of hardware acceleration is bugging me as i now more easily notice motion blur. btw - i was able to figure this out by switching to the elecard codec as it has no hardware acceleration and thus the audio was working fine. |
