HD Media Extender System Requirements

I have a Celeron 2.4 Ghz DVR, and I wasn't able to get smooth HD playback and satisfactory SageTV interface performance, even when I upgraded the video card to an ATI HD 2400 Pro. Not surprising, since the system is below specs.

Just wondering what the system requirements will be for the HD Media Extender. Since it is doing the video decoding, hopefully my system will be fast enough to serve it. Are there official specs published yet?

I was using a HVR-1600 as the tuner card, but I since returned it to CC. Maybe the HDHR would take even more load off my system.

The server isn't going to be doing any processing on video files (at least, not when playing mpeg2 or the other natively support formats), so I'm sure your server would be plenty fast. When recording HD, you're basically just saving the bitstream that's sent out over cable or the air. When the extender plays back the video you're just streaming the video file to it.

If you going be turn SageTV in to Server it alway best to have at lease min of 1GB with XP or if it Vista you better dbl that to min of 2GB it none to with HD Media Extender it just fact you want working memory over head space.

I have 512 MB of RAM in my server and I don't have any problems. Its Windows XP with only the Sage service and AVG antivirus running. Sage is a beast when it comes to memory usage so 1 gig may be useful, but I don't think its necessary.

I remember versions 1.4 and 2. Sage was running on my main PC (which is now my server) in the background as I did other things. I don't think you can do that with only 512 megs of RAM anymore!

All,

How about the HD Extender connected to a non HD TV? When playing back HD content to a SD TV will the server still have to decode the stream and then encode it at a lower res or will the HD Extender do that on its own?

I'm sure the extender can play back HD files on an SDTV (well, as sure as I can be without using it yet). I'm planning on doing that for a while because my cable company's analog network TV reception is awful.
