Just a NB here. If you name this one 16x9 then Nielm's automatic AR switcher will work with the HD extender and with the normal client.

Hence:

Code:
advanced_aspect_ratio_extra_modes=16x9|source\=2048,2048,4096,3072,FrontEdgeToCenter,FrontEdgeToCenter,Relative,Relative,Relative,Relative

Is there anyway to remove Fill, ZoomA and ZoomB From the Aspect Toggle remote fuction? I would like to toggle between Source and my custom aspect ratio.

If not, how do I bind a remote key to my custom aspect ratio? I don't see it under Detailed Settings/Commands/Link Infrared.

Thanks,
-Polen

As far as the first question, I think the others are there, you just have to scroll down to see them (there is no indicator that it's a scrollable list! - but it is!)

btl.
Hey, check that out! Yeah, I didn't even think to try to scroll, since it just looked like a set list.

Thanks.

Have any of you tried RC 6.3.6 and used the default advanced aspect ratio setting? I can't seem to get it to work and I want to know if anyone else had used it and had success. I'm assuming I just don't have it set correctly.

Anybody know how to set an aspect ratio to show the whole screen of a 1920x1080i source down to say 1728x972i (equivalent to negative stretch)?

I am the original poster and have tried everything to get something to take care of my overscan on the Mits RPTV using component only (no HDMI or DVI). Setting a custom resolution of 1728x972i makes the tv set the resolution to the default 480i so I don't think this is ever going to work. I have tried to understand the syntax of the custom aspect ratio but am having a hard time understanding exactly what I need. Is there anybody that could get me started?

Thanks.

By the way I am considering just having a tech come out and manually adjust the overscan and give it a good cleaning to fix the problem.... but the client/server setup I had before did such a good job I hate to spend the money on an old tv if there is a possibility of getting the HD extender to fix the problem.

Hi,
i have a problem with the aspect settings I tried to create. I have a projector and want any 2.35:1 image to be positioned at the bottom of the screen, because I only have a movable cache (black roller blind) on the top of the screen on the wall.

Right now I use Zoom Player. It has a function to align the image at the bottom of the screen. But I can't seem to replicate this with the HD Extender.

Here is what I tried:

Code:
Bottomalign|output=2048,0,4096,4096,FrontEdgeToCenter,RearEdgeToBorder,Relative,Relative,Relative,Relative
But when I select this aspect ratio there is no difference to the "source" aspect ratio setting. With 4:3 or 16:9 there shouldn't be any difference, but movies in cinemascope should be aligned at the bottom.

Or is there a mistake I am making

Does anybody know a solution?

Marneb

The blackstrip option might do it, but I haven't tried. Of course, my question is why bother? TV's normally have overscan, everything you watch is overscanned.

Well first things first, you need a "\=" instead of just an "=".

If I had to guess, you'll probably need to crop it with something like my letterbox mode I posted above, this might do the trick:

Code:
Bottomalign|source\=2048,2048,4096,3072,FrontEdgeToCenter,FrontEdgeToCenter,Relative,Relative,Relative,Relative|source\=2048,0,4096,4096,FrontEdgeToCenter,RearEdgeToBorder,Relative,Relative,Relative,Relative
I don't know if the size on output needs to be 4096 or 3072 since it's now cropped and not the full height of the display.

In the file I had the "\="

Thx for the help, but it did not work. The image does not differ between "Source" and "Bottomalign".
I tried other custom aspect ratios and they do work. So it shouldn't be a problem with the formatting.

Does anybody else have an idea how to get the image "uncentered"?

Assuming that the original source format is 16:9, the first part of this (same as letterbox) will yeild a 2.37:1 image with black bars on top and bottom.

Will the addition of blackstrip=0,0 here cause the 2.37:1 image to stretch vertically so as to eliminate the black bars?

I can't figure out how to get it to scale the outcome of the source parameter to take up the entire screen without black bars......

btl.

Did you by chance figure this one out? I'm struggling with the exact same thing now and the lump on my head from beating it against the wall is growing.

I never really did get that figured out.

This is the mode I ended up with on my extenders. It stretches 4x3 to fill the screen horizontally, and stretches it vertically a little bit to make the geometry look close to right. It also doesn't affect 16x9 images at all.

advanced_aspect_ratio_extra_modes=
Default|cutstrip\=2048,0|blackstrip\=0,0|nonlinearmode\=0,0;

In order to remove the bars from 2.35:1 material, I know nonlinearmode=0,0 has to be set - that allows it to stretch things. I'm not sure what other steps would be necessary.

btl.

Thanks for the feedback.

I was able to increase the size of the black bars by lowering the height parameter, but was never able to reduce the size of them. I never added the nonlinearmode=0,0 so I hope this will help.

I'll play with it some more tonight. I don't want any burn in on my RPTV and it does not have a zoom mode to fix this. So, I need to figure this one out.

I figured out how to remove the black bars on 2.35 aspect ratio movies. You have to use cutstrip and you may need to play with the 3590 and 516 values below (they add up to 4096).

advanced_aspect_ratio_extra_modes=Taller|source\=2048,2048,4096,3590
,FrontEdgeToCenter,FrontEdgeToCenter,Relative,Relative,Relative,Relative
|blackstrip\=0,0|cutstrip\=0,516

Edited: to remove the nonlinear parameter as Stanger89 suggested in the following posts.

Why are you using nonlinearmode?

I don't really know. I was just thrilled after trying so many combinations that did nothing to see something work.

For adjusting 2.35 material, would it be better to leave the nonlinear parm off or to set it to 0,0?

nonlinearmode does a horizontal non-linear stretch, I don't think you want that for 2.35:1

Can't seem to add custom ratios ...

I have been trying for the past week or so to add custom ratios to the HD extender. It worked once - but then I upgraded to 6.38 and now I can't seem to make anything show up. I saved the relevant line from No matter what I add to the client property file I only ever see the Defaults.

I am tempted to delete the property file and let it recreate ... is that ok to do?
The HD is upgraded to the latest firmware and I am running Sage 6.37 in service mode.

Help would be appreciated.....
Thanks

Are you making sure to stop the SageTV service and close down SageTV on the server before editing the properties file?

Question Unscaled DVD (Widescreen) Video

Hello,

I have ripped a video file from DVD with OGMRip into a Matroska container; unscaled resolution 720x480, aspect ratio 1.78:1.

When playing back in the SageTV Client, I can select 16x9 Aspect Ratio Mode; the video plays back fine and looks good.

However, with the HD Extender, there is not a "16x9" Aspect Ratio Mode and the video is taller than it should be. I've viewed the other options available in the extender, but the display only looks worse.

I've played around with advanced_aspect_ratio_extra_modes options but can't seem to get an acceptable 16x9 aspect ratio. There should be black bars on the top and bottom, but the extender attempts to fill the entire screen.

Is it possible to create a 16x9 aspect ratio similar to the Client and Placeshifter, or must I scale the video in the transcoding stage for the HD Extender to display properly?

EDIT: The HD Extender is hooked up to a 4:3 projector.
