How does HD Media extender affect Sage+Meedio Users

I currently run Meedio (Frontend and Meedio TV) on family room HTPC and also have another PC experimenting with BTV and HDHomeRun to record QAM HD. I was planning on trying to migrate to a Meedio frontend and BTV for TV recording/playback but with the new HD media extender I am thinking I should instread consider switching to SageTV which supports the HDHR with the HD media extender.

I am curious how the non TV aspects of Sage compare to Meedio(Meedios)? Some related questions:
- Is there anything like Meedio MeeTVShows or TVNight in Sage?
- How does music and picture slideshows compare in Sage to Meedio?

I know there are some users who use Meedio frontend and SageTV. With the HD media extender does this mean that any SageTV+Meedio frontend users who want to use the HD media extender will have to giveup Meedio?

ie. would the SageTV+Meedio description in the following post still work with HD media extender?

Think of the extender as a sophisticated, but simple, client; the ONLY job of the extender is to display the SageTV UI & content that is served up from the SageTV Media Center.

You can serve up custom content to the extender, but it must be embedded within Sage itself; if you wish to display other UI elements alongside or wrapped around the Sage client, you'll need a full PC instead of the extender.

As for the rest of your questions, I've never used Meedio; there are some usability quirks (IMO) in the Music & Pictures (Media Center) in Sage, but it works OK.

HTH,
Stu

I'm not a meedio fan, though I haven't tried it extensively. After Yahoo bought them, I didn't bother to tinker with it any further.

The Music and Photo features in SageTV is far behind the PVR functions, that's for sure. The Video playback is good enough. It plays most popular file formats and supports different aspect ratios and subtitles. For Photos, it has improved a lot in v6. It just has the basic features covered, such as thumbnail view, slideshows, and rotate image. The Music feature is less intuitive, especially if you don't have your music properly tagged. But as with Photos, it has the basic functions, such as playlist, album cover, support most popular formats, and shuffle/repeat playback options.
