Adding HDHomeRun Tuner

We are setting up SageTV for WHS. We are using the latest beta build. Application installed with no obvious errors. There is no tuner installed in the PC chassis. The HDHomeRun is working and able to display OTA HD program via VNC client.

When we try to add the first tuner (HDHomeRun) the Sage UI tells me that there are no tuners. When I click to Add a tuner, the UI tells me there are no tuners.

Is a motherboard based tuner required to add an external TCP tuner?

I believe the next step once we get a picture displayed in SageTV viewer is to add the HDExtender configuration? Might as well ask in one fell swoop

Thanx for the insights.

Hi Matt,
Yes

"Run SageTV.

If there are no other tuner/capture cards configured SageTV should automatically show the Setup Wizard. If there are other tuner/capture cards configured then go into the Setup menu, Video Sources, Add Source.

Choose the first "Silicondust HDHomeRun Tuner" option."

The "choose the first..." never appears. It just repeats "you don't have any tuners..." That's the problem.

Also if you haven't shutdown SageTV since you installed the HDHOMERUN, SageTV won't see it until it closes and you re-open Sage.. at least that was the case for me.

I just recently installed a HDHR and the instructions were helpful up the part where I needed to integrate with Sage. I was able to tune channels and view them on VLC. I changed enabled the ones I wanted in the HDHR channel setup and I made sure the channel names were correct.

Here's the part the instructions didn't really make clear to me and I had to go to the troubleshooting guide on the silicondust website and a bunch of trial and error.

1. To get the tuners to show up, I needed to stop sage, load the HDHR setup utility and click the "Install All" button to make sure there were checkmarks next to the tuners on the left. Then I restarted sage and the tuners showed up.

2. I'm using the HDHR to tune the QAM channels over cable. In the HDHR setup, when choosing the lineup, I was unable to choose "Digital Cable". I would select it in the dropdown, but when I click apply, it flips back to "Digital Antenna". I just scanned the channels and used the channel editor and it found the QAM channels.

3. After adding the tuner into sage and going to the channel setup, I tried to do the physical mapping as described in the link above. I kept trying and trying and trying to no avail. I ended up using sage to scan for channels and it picked up all the channels that I had enabled.

I think that's it.

Ok,
I again ran the HDHR installer, selected Install all. I don't see a check mark next to the two tuners, but they both seem to be functional as I can find channels via my OTA antenna and view via the VLC viewer, once the tuners lock on to the signal.

I rebooted to make sure that the SageServer was shut down / restarted after the HDHR install. (I previously shut down SageServer via WHD command console with no success).

Started Sage configuration, and again, no tuner and no way to choose a HDHR tuner.

Shut down server.

I installed a PVR350 card and on reboot, installed it's latest Hauppauge drivers (didn't install their TV app).

I rebooted again just to be sure.

I started Sage configuration, and low and behold, a tuner.
But, still no option to add HDHR.

I see Windows Firewall has the HDHR as an exception.

Could Sage still not see the HDHR? What ports need to be opened for Sage to see the HDHR?

This is a virgin, fully updated WHS OEM OS.

Now, when the HDHR first came out, I remember installing a Sage specific update that created a SageTV tab in the HDHR setup utility. I have installed the very latest HDHR drivers from silicondust and don't see this SageTV tab. I was thinking that Sage's support is now built in and not an afterthought? Is there another piece of software I am missing that enables Sage to see a HDHR?

Ok, problem solved.

I pulled the ethernet from a BeyondTV server that was originally configured to talk to the HDHR.

I reinstalled the BD drivers via the HDHR Setup utility.

I rebooted the HDHR

I restarted SageServer

On Setup in Sage app, the two tuners were then there.

One of the above resolved the issue. I suspect BeyondTV was a little selfish with the HDHR
