Request: Please don't change decoder merits
Not sure if this is the best place for this, but hey Sage guys...
Everytime I install a new version of Sage, I have to reset all of my decoder merits again. Can we at least be asked if it's OK? Maybe have an option to leave all decoder merits unchanged? |

Thats funny never once Have I had to reset the encoder merits after install. You have to make sure you keep the property files.

I was always under the impression that Sage did keep the properties file on upgrade.
Plus, I don't think decoder merits are set in the properties file. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. And ever since 6.2-ish, I've had to reset merits after I upgrade. |

Sorry I thought you meant encoder merit my fault.. must have had a brain fart. There is a problem with 6.35 the changes the decoder merits. You are correct.

File a bug report... maybe if enough of us complain, Sage will finally fix what they broke.
I'm getting fed up with Sage tech support. Their "fix" for the problem was to reinstall the nVidia codec, which does not work. I write back informing them it doesn't work, I'm still waiting for a response (3 days so far)

I have rarely needed to get support from them, but I do understand.
I use DirectShow Filter Manager to change merits. But I shouldn't have to. And then I need to use GraphEdit to be sure I got the right ones done the right way. Ugh. I'll file a report and see where it goes. |

IMHO, there should be a way to control this issue from within Sage without opening the properties file. There should also be a way to refresh the properties file with Sage open.
My recommendation is for sage to number the turners, and then give the user the ability to change the order. I think a simple move turner up or down would be all it would take. |

FYI, we're talking about Directshow MPEG-2/DVD decoder filter merits, NOT tuner (encoder) merits.
And yes, THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. I dunno why SageTV forces its decoders with a much higher merit, such that reinstallation of Nvidia PureVideo doesn't fix the issue. I've had to do the filter manager fix 3 times now over the course of about a year.. it's to the point where I'm not looking forward to upgrading SageTV even though they are constantly adding nice features. Maybe I'll do a bug report as well..

I wish Sage tech support would just own up to the fact that they broke something in 6.3.x. All I got from them was a half-assed "reinstall the nVidia decoder", which neither fixes the problem nor address the underlying issue (Sage broke something that used to work)

All my decoders are acting wacky now too. I can't get any other decoder(Nvidia for instance) to render but sage. When I unregister sage decoders the video will not play back...

SageTV MPEG DeMUX still needs High Priority. On my box I have Nvidia/Cyberlink Video (I switch between both), AC3Filter, and SageTV MPEG DeMUX set to 090400000 using DirectShow Filter Manager. Reboot after changing the merits and you should be G2G for Mpegs.

The V6.3.8 Release Candidate has the merit of SageTV's decoder/demuxes reduced so this problem should no longer occur.
