FSE Not Working ?

Hi everyone.

I'm trying to get rid of some micro-stutter on some of my stations.

I read one thread that says one of the most important things to ensure you're getting maximum performance is to turn on FSE.

So, I did that. And I thought that by turning it on in the menu it would, well, work.

But then I read that a good way to test if it's working or not is to hit the Windows key on your keyboard. If it minimizes Sage then you were in FSE mode. If the start menu pops up.. you weren't.

Sage does not minimize for me. The windows start menu pops up over Sage when I press it.

Any suggestions?

I'm using the latest Sage and Java. I am using a Nvidia 6150 with the latest drivers.

Thanks !

.david

What version of Windows? XP or Vista? I don't think Vista does FSE. Are you set for overlay or VMR9 for the video renderer? You'll need to use VMR9.

FSE takes effect when you first enter full-screen mode. If you're in full-screen mode already when you turn on the menu option, it won't immediately take effect. You need to revert to windowed mode and then back to full-screen mode to see any difference.

Note also that when you hit the Windows key and Sage minimizes, you've just exited FSE. So if you want to stay in FSE, you'll need to go through the same windowed-mode-and-back-to-full-screen rigmarole to re-establish FSE every time Sage loses focus.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I am using XP.

When I turned FSE on in the menus I quit SAGE and restarted it. It starts windowed, and then I full-screen it.

I am using VMR9.

Any ideas?

Why don't you spell out exactly what versions of everything you have, so we know what we're talking about. (For instance "the latest Sage" would be the 6.3.6 beta released yesterday. I'm guessing that's not what you're using.)

That all looks pretty current.

About the only other thing I can think of is to double-check that you have 3D acceleration enabled in Sage.

It's possible that there's some hardware or driver issue specific to your graphics chip that's preventing FSE from working. I don't have any hands-on experience with the 6150 so I can't say for sure about that.
