The "SageTV Encodenator"?

Yeah, stupid, I know. Anyway, so Narflex, care to hike up the skirt a little more? Are we talking about Hauppaugue's little ditty, or do you have something else up your sleeve? Clue/tease number two is...

1) You're a cruel, cruel, tease :-)
2) First one with a stable product to market gets my $$, but i'm a big fan of keeping the # of mfr's to a minimum so SageTV has an inherent advantage there.
3) You're a cruel, cruel, cruel tease :-)

How about "The A Hole HD Recorder". The A stands for analog, of course

I'd call it the SageTV Component Capture Device. Not a very flashy name, I know, but you want people to understand what it does and you want people searching to be able to find it easily.

I would buy... several of these. Easily. No questions asked. I currently use Firewire, and between the cable company meddling with my channels and the inherent unreliability of firewire recording, I would be _all over_ any device that let me just capture component at 1080i instead.

I might as well join in... Names like "Ultimate" or "Perfection" seem to indicate to me that a follow-up product can't be as good... Ultimater? Perfectest? Better than Ezra? (how good was Ezra?)

So, sticking with codes instead of actual names, how about:

HDPVR-1080U
HDVR-1080U

That gives:

HD (Personal) Video Recorder - an HD recording, as opposed to simply saving the digital stream as it arrives

1080 for the max resolution & a number that means something to choosy HD viewers

U for USB interface; change to another letter for PCI or other interface

Add a 2 to the designation if there is a dual tuner version (3? 4?)

Based on one of the dorkiest lines in cinema...

Sage Hello

As in you had me at hello... ugh!

Though Apple may have some trademark on that based on the original Macintosh cursive hello text.

Seriously, I think that HDPVR-1080U-1, 2, 3, or 4 would be great names.

You do realize, don't you, that this would make Sage the most flexible DVR solution available since it would be compatible with any HD video solution? People could switch between HD Cable, satellite, FiOS, etc, without needing to purchase different tuner cards or buy computers "certifed" by a different group. You'd be magicians!

PS: I'll take enough devices for three encoders! And I'd like the H.264 format for files. Hopefully, with 5.1 sound support.

2 mos?! Those must be Venus months.

This product would be great for DirecTV for me, but I am not sure why anyone would use it for HD-DVD or Blueray for that matter. They don't do hi-res on analog outputs.

Also it would be nice if the product was modular (i.e add more HD inputs later).

Also if it were rack-mountable

BUT, if this is the same hardware as the Hauppauge HD encoder, it's supposed to be out in a couple months, with a pricetag of around 250ish according to people who've seen it at CES...
