Server Migration (v6)

I've lost it...

I've been working so hard I haven't touched my Sage setup in months. My wife and kids are harrassing me because the system is slow... so I've decided to do a fresh install on new hardware for both clients. At the same time I'll be going from v5 to v6.

Long story short, how can I be sure that I keep my program history ("watched" list) and copy over my currently recorded shows so they are playable from the new server.

To simplify the process I went ahead and bought a v6 server and v6 client license, so I'm doing "clean" installs (no upgrades) and will have the v5 server and clients available to pull from if I need to (plus if goes to hell I can just switch back to the slow v5 setup...)

I'll worry about customizing later, just need the basics, my watched show history, my currently recorded shows and my upcoming recordings and series settings...

Thanks in advance...

Update

This should say I'm doing a fresh install of both clients and server...

I did something similar a few months ago, and have had problems ever since such as not giving HD versions of recording priority, even if I delete the old favorite and use the HD version in the program guide to recreate it. Also when I delete a recording, it reappears 2 minutes later. I would then have to reboot the sage server, sometimes it would then be gone, other times I would have to go back in and delete it again. 2 days later it will start not deleting again. Rinse and repeat .

The problem is that since version 6.x, sage wants to install to just Program files\sagetv, when before it was Prog files\Frey tech\sagetv. Then when you import in your sageproperties and wiz.bin files, its looking in the wrong place. I tried repointing everything in sageproperties to the new install directory, but have had the problems listed above ever since.

I recommend that you install the last version you had running first, then copy your wiz.bin and sageproperties files. Test everything and once it seems like its working, install the latest version and it should detect your old version and upgrade it for you. I am currently going to try the same thing, and I will let you know my results. Keep in mind, if you ever reinstall your os again or move to a new computer, you will have to do this all again

now I just noticed that my latest version was 6.0.19 that was upgraded from version 5.x, and before that 4.x (and I think maybe even 2.x before that). 6 wants to install to just sage, but my old version was frey tech\sage. So now Im going to try to install 6.0.19 to my old path instead and see how it goes.

See this FAQ, especially the Q about moving to a new PC towards the end of that post.

You should not copy your old properties files to the new computer.
