Angry usb uirt not working

I just purchased sageTV and the usb uirt. I have followed the installation instrustions for the UIRT and everything appeared to get installed and when I look at the UIrt in devise manger it says its working. I also installed the irsage1001.zip, both installed to the proper directories. Unfortunatley the uirt does not seem to receive a signal. When i ran the setup wizard in sage it sees the uirt and goes throught the process of selecting a cable box Scientific Atlantic 4200 but when its gets to trying the 0-9 it does not appear to work. I get no red led when I press a button on the remote and if I try to learn a button the red led does blink rapidely but does not learn the code. When I go into detail setup; commands; it will not register the keypresses .

Previously I was using Windows MCE with an IR receiver transmitter. Could that be interfeering with the uirt device? Any help would be appreciated.

The remote control codes that come with SageTV are for the actisys not USB UIRT.

You need to program it for USB UIRT.

As for the second problem you may need to unplug and replug the USB UIRT.
Also if the system reinstalls the drivers you need to copy the file from the zip file
again.

I found the easiest way to program the remote is to hold down the button you want to
program before hitting the rerogram button in SageTV.

So if I understand what you are saying I should disregard the Scienticif Atlantic selection and start a new device and learn the codes. I will give that a try and see what happens. after I posted my prolems I did a complete reinstall and made sure the driver for the UIRT and Sage are in the correct directories. thanks for you help.

PS it would be nice if the uirt has some kind of test program so one could know that it is indeed working. I have yet to come across anthing that says if you do this that pretty much indicates the UIRt is working.

I had a similar problem... I could learn a code but when I pressed "test" nothing happened. I gave up and went back to using the EXETunerPlugin and Girder.

Thumbs down

Well that not very encouraging.

I have tried to create a new ir file by learing. It appears to have created the file with some ir data for each of the numeric keys but the uirt or sage just doesn't respond to the key presses. The only way I can get SAGETV to stay in sync with the correct cable channel is by using the guide.

When I press a key on the cable box remote I would expect the the UIRT led would light /flash the same as my ir receiver connect to Windows MCE. But I get nothing. Just for some more information when I use the MCE remote the UIRT does flash.

So should the UIRt flash when you press a key on the remote and if so and doesn't what does that mean? Thanks again

Hi

I had this same problem with the Uirt. I was using RCA remote which is in the 56k range which the UIRT is not sensitive to. I was able to oull out an old VCR remote and program Sage using that one.

I am using a serial connection to my directv receiver so I'm not sure about the transmit codes.

If you have girder or download the demo version and use it to test your remote. When I tested with Girder it let me know what frequencies my RCA was transmitting.

You may also get some good advice from the USBUIRT forums at:
www.ubsuirt.com

Thanks for your help. I downloaded Girder and tested the remote and it was operating in the 57K ranges. Like you suggested I searched my collection of remote and found one operating in the 37K range. This allowed me to copy some of the command to operate Sage. For instance the Volume Up/Down the direction button Up/Down/left/Right etc. However the numberice buttons do show a change in channels withing SaveTV but do not change my cable box. So although I have made some progress the important part of changing the cable box is still not working. Any further help would be appreciate.

pjjelly,

I have an IR file for the USB UIRT that works flawlessly on my ScientificAtlanta Explorer 2200 STB. I will try and remember to post it tonight. It took me some trial and error before it worked reliably, but I am positive the IR codes are good for the Explorer 2200 STB as I have used it on two different computers and it has worked perfectly for several weeks now. I found that the USB UIRT can send very fast to 2200 as compared to the Actisys I also use. If my ir file does not work reliably it may be a problem with your USB UIRT.

How far away is the USB UIRT from the explorer 2200?

Mine is right on top of it so you may need to increase the delays if yours is farther away.

I had a hell of a time getting usbuirt working with a couple of dish boxes so I feel your pain. Just for grins, try this setting in properties:

irtune_repeat_factor=2

I changed mine to 4 and it works great.

I think that settings is in your properties file. I'm guessing because I'm not using the built-in remote capabilities of Sage.
