Client All Data Lost

Good afternoon,

I have a sagetv sever and two clients.

This morning when i turned on my clients, i could connect to the server and see the menu but none of my stored data was available. When i tried to watch live tv - nothing ! When i went to sage tv recordings - all empty. My music, video, dvd files all empty !!

I panicked went to my server - all the data was there fine

I have installed nothign at all on any piece of kit and the system worked fine yesterday. I am at a loss.....

For info, I also have placeshifter, this is working fine !!

Was this while the clients were already running? It sounds like the clients just lost their connection to the server. Did the server option get disabled in SageTV on the server? Is a firewall blocking the connection? Did the server's IP address change?

Have you tried restarting the client? If it was set to automatically connect to a specific server, you my have to reset that if the server's IP address has changed somehow. If it doesn't pop-up a dialog asking what server to connect to, then try clearing this property in sageclient.properties: autoconnect_server_hostname.

My placeshifter clients work fine, via local LAN connection & across internet.

My SageTV clients do not work - they connect to the server, which is the only one i have. I use the machine name and not the ip address. I have cleaed the auto connect property and still have the same issue.

The server has been rebooted.

The clients have been rebooted.

As placeshifter clients work I doubted that the server service would stop. However i have checked and its working fine.

I have attached a word doc with some screen shots, from Client first and then Placeshifter....

Its bonkers !!

I am at a loss !!

Is your server PC running Vista and you somehow have the service and UI both running as independent servers, with the clients connecting to the false servers?

Did you check the firewall(s)?

All PC's are running XP Pro SP2

All firewalls are switched off.

I have looked at the services tab in computer management and found that the service could not start.

Access Denied

I tracked this back to some user rights work i completed. I made the account that is sat logged in on my server a normal user account - not an Administrator, as it had been. Even when I attempted to use an admin account with the service, it again advised 'access denied'

Having changed the account back to an Administrator account everthing is working fine.

Obviously I am concerned from a security perspective as I do not want my server sat logged in with an admin account.
