Try uninstalling 1.4 (backing up your sage.properties and wiz.bin if they are important to you). Then delete the SageTV directory and re-install the beta.

An alternstive if you still have problems is to move your proprties and propertier backup to a diffrent directory and let sage create a new one on startup. That way you cansee if it's your settings or 2.0 with your hardwar. Helps narrow down the possibilities.

Alas, still no luck. I tried all the recommendations here, but even after a complete uninstall/reinstall, v2 just doesn't work for me. Which is strange, b/c 1.4 never gave me any problems.

I just see a mostly blank screen (with what I do see being garbage chars) as shown in my initial post.

What is your configuration? Are you using Hauppauge 250(s) or 350? If so are you using the latest 1.8 drivers from the shspvr site?

I suspect a encoder related problem because of these lines in the log file:
Fri 1/23 21:40:12.966 Failed to find:Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture
Fri 1/23 21:40:12.967 Could not load video capture filter for encoder
Fri 1/23 21:40:13.043 Removing encoder because it failed the check:Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II

I had that problem.

I was messing around with the background trying to make a different background, the different background worked but I got what you have. The only way I could get it working again was to delte the directory, but make sure you have it backed up. Sage doesn't un-install everything during the un-install.

Found the problem.
When I swapped out my Radeon card for a GeoForce 2 I had in another PC, the display worked.

Now that the Radeon isn't in my server, but a client, I'll have to see if SageClient has the same display problems. Meanwhile, I'll submit the issue with Sage not working with the ATI Radeon (72000) to the bug database

I finally installed the V2 beta last night and got the exact same garbage on most of the menu screens. I also have a Radeon 7200 video card. Is there a fix yet for this issue?

I use the same card in one of my clients. I also had problems until I updated the video drivers, then it worked fine.

Watter,

Do you know what version of the drivers you used that worked?
