PNG Alpha Channel support for high resolution satlogo.com logos in Sage

I'm not sure how long Satlogo.com has been offering high resolution logos, but I've been putting together a mix/match of remmy's excellent logos + logos from Satlogo.com. I didn't realize at first that you have to click the H by the logo at satlogo to get the high resolution version, but they are mostly high quality.

The problem I'm having seems to be Sage's support (or lack thereof?) for the Alpha Channel a.k.a. variable transparency feature of .png - making some of the logo's look bad in the Sage program guide.

The ABC HD logo is a good example of a great looking logo that doesn't look very good in Sage.

I've battled this on the web as well. IE 6 doesn't support Alpha Channel very well either and requires a hack - where Firefox works well.

Has anyone else tried the .png graphics in Sage with success? Maybe I'm missing a setting?

Brad

Couldn't it be converted into a format that would look good on SageTV with some graphic converting program?

I tried the ABC logo you pointed at on my Advanced Mini Guide plugin - it seems to look pretty good to me!

I did scale it down to 15% (126x53) of the size that it is from SATLOGO before I put it in my ChannelLogos folder.

I use PNG alpha blending extensively in my homebrew STV, and Sage does a good job with it. So I don't think that's your problem, unless your graphics hardware/drivers are deficient in this department.

I think bialo has it right and your problem more likely has to do with scaling. If you prescale the image with some smart scaling tool that smoothes the result, it will probably look a lot better than if you let Sage/Java scale it on the fly without any smoothing. (Who needs 800x800 channel logos anyway?)

If that doesn't help, maybe you could post a screenshot so we know what you're talking about.

Try using VMR9 if you can. I think it helps with transparent items.

I have to admit the ABC HD logo looks great in the screenshot bialio posted. I'll try resizing and see if that helps.

I quickly turned on VMR9 this morning, and it didn't seem to change anything. Of course, my video card is an ancient NVIDIA 5700 VE (value edition). Maybe it doesn't have support for this.

I'll post screens later so everyone can see what I'm seeing.

I usually have set to VMR9 and then restart the UI. try that.
