HD Extender playback problem in 6.3.8

I can't figure out whats causing the problem, but when playing certain recorded shows, the screen is just black on the HD Extender. It only affects recorded show, mostly the HD ones, but imported Videos play fine. Everything plays fine on the MVP and PC client.

I reverted back to 6.3.7 and everything works again.

I have more testing to do but I saw this on last night's recording of House. On the HDx it was a black screen. I could skip and the timeline would show but nothing. I could get to the point of the spinning circle of death. But I could play it on any PC or MVP with no issue. I deleted it and will do more tests and recordings today. Also had no problem playing previous HD recordings.

I saw the same type of issue, but was not a HD show. It was a digital recording made with the HD Homerun. I reported it and provided a file to Sage support.

I had a problem where I couldn't change channels with my HDHR. It said that the tuners were busy with LiveTV channels. Also, I couldn't properly tune 2 stations, they stuttered terribly. I reverted back to 6.3.7 and I still had the problem but I hadn't restarted yet, when I did, the problem went away.

So maybe 6.3.8 has issues with the HDHR.

I just did some more testing. This only affects the HDx. Black screen with sometimes partial audio. 1, 2 sec clipped audio. Both HD and SD Live TV. Although I did get SD once fine I couldn't reproduce it. None of these symptoms were seen on 2 different PC clients tuning to the same stations. All using a HD Homerun. Rolling back to 6.3.7 fixes this issue. I submitted a bug.

i had these same problems with 6.3.7 and this is what SageTV said to try.

Do you have this property set:

enable_internal_push_remuxer=false

If to; then change that to 'true'. Let me know if that fixes it.

Thanks,

I had the same problem with 6.3.8 with live HD on a couple of channels (via HDHR QAM) on the HDx only. I did not notice this with any live SD. I also didn't notice this on any previously recorded shows (HD or SD). Reverting back to 6.37 also solved the problem. Unfortunate, because my HDx UI felt much "snappier."

BTW, I'm running with HDx firmware 20080129 and I'm using the HDHR package "20080117beta2"

There is also a new HDHR beta release today entitled "20080202beta1"

I'm debating whether or not to try it with 6.3.7 and/or 6.3.8

PS: BTW Gerry, SagePro for the new SageMC is great! Thanks! Bring's back memories. I wonder how Pablo and the gang are doing....

I aslo tried the STV from 6.3.8 after I rolled back to 6.3.7. Mo difference so it's not STV related. Must have been a change in the core. (My guess)
I usually try these betas right off the bat so I'll probably give it a shot tonight and hope for the best.

Well with Microsoft making a bid for Yahoo however they're doing they may just be doing a little bit better.

Try an update for the black screen problem that it happens on a recording that has multiple audio tracks, That the PTS in one of audio tracks were not fixed causes the playing back problem.

Did the beta HDHR driver/firmware package 20080117beta2 work well for you....

I had noticed that the last official release had issues with Sagetv so I steered clear of it so as not to reduce the WAF which is rather low right now due to issues with reception of OTA in our area. No need to cause any additional problems that can't be fixed easily.

The patch did not fix either of the 2 issues I reported since Friday. I have 1 show that gives the black screen on the HDx. I have another that does not play sound on the HDx or Client, VLC plays it just fine.

The update fixes the bug at the recoding end, bad shows should be played back on a computer by switching audio language.

Not usre what you mean by bad shows. The first show played fine using the client. I just tested the second show (no sound) and the placeshifter plays it fine. It not not have sound when using HDx, client or server.
BTW: the first show is on the Sage FTP server, I can send you the name via provate message if you want.

I appended test to the file names. Both show the same issue as I stated.
I am going into Media Center->Browse Media Files->Play a Selected Media File to test them.

Thanks donkey, this file seems to fixed the problem for me in 6.3.8. By the way, you have to put this file into the "Common" folder of SageTV for those that don't know, it wasn't obvious to me.

I too was fixed by putting the new TSSplitter.ax file in my Common folder, but it is not 100%.
Before putting this file in the dir, the QAM streams coming from my HDHR's were unwatchable. Green everywhere, blocks of random black and other colors, and skips in audio and video. You could hardly tell what was going on.
Now with the new file, the tv is completely watchable, but there are a few random blocks on the screen that change color or skip every few seconds. Its almost like the signal is at 60% and Sage is just chugging through the bad data, even though my QAM signals are all around 100%

I was not able to watch house this week on my HD-100. It was similar to another person's response. I can playback this show fine on my MVP's and via the SageTV client. For some reason, the HD100 will not play it back even with the patch listed in this thread.

I guess I need to file a trouble ticket...

I had this type of problem with 2 of my files. I was in contact with support and they said the above patch is for record time, if the shows were recorded before the patch was applied, then they will not play on the HDx. Once the patch is applied no more recordings like this will occur. This is correct for what I have seen so far.
