please point me to the best faq on re-installing from scratch

My installation of v.6, that was installed on top of 5, had so many problems that I have trashed it and am attempting to install v.6 fresh

problem 1: my placeshifter license doesn't want to install

problem 2: the locator service for PL doesn't work

problem 3: Sage can't display video from my Hauppauge 150

problem 4: even though I kept the wiz.bin and sage properties, etc, I seem to be getting absolutely nowhere.

so, how do I re-enter the placeshifter license for starters, without it saying "you have 0 valid licenses"?

Appendix N in the PDF manual has instructions for entering your PS or extender licenses. Maybe you were trying to register it while SageTV was still running.

This FAQ talks about resetting SageTV. It all boils down to this: get rid of ALL your old properties files if you think there is a configuration issue. See the FAQ for more details.

thanks for your help so far - if you don't work for sage, they should pay you. I lost my recordings - they are all there physically, but even though I copied back the old files - they are not showing up as "recordings".

also, I now have no audio from live tv or media center videos - i do get audio from online services - isn't that odd

I am so totally lost on this, it will take phone support. Do you know if the Sage brass offer phone support?

They don't offer phone support afaik though I've heard very good things about the online support that they provide. Click here and explain your troubles.

If I were reinstalling from scratch, I'd keep the wiz.bin but let sage create a new sage.properties file.

That way you get a fresh clean sage install (it doesn't use any previous decoder/encoder settings), but your recordings/favourites etc are still there.

ok, thanks for that info. My biggest problem, and the one that led to all of this, is figuring out how to open a port so the Placeshifter communicates with the server. It was downhill from there.
