Trouble with Watch it Now

So, I love the plug in! It's been working flawless for the last week and I really like the ability to download at a better quality than I can stream for later playback. I ran into a glitch this evening though. When I go to browse watch it now by category it comes up empty and when I do a search for a watch it now movie and it finds the movie "watch it now" in not available as an option. I looked in the 'sage.netflix.log' file and find a couple things. The first when trying to browse by catagory:

"BrowseInstantRemote recieved processRequest sortType: alphaIndex:0
end not found:<div class="genreSidebar"
In getShows 296"

and when I select a known 'watch it now movie':

show.getDataFilled() for The Magic of Flight: IMAX=true
updateShowEpisodes no WatchNow
show.getDataFilled() for The Magic of Flight: IMAX=true
updateShowEpisodes no WatchNow

So, any help would be muchly appreciated!

Brad

Ditto. Same issue is happening to me. I know it's not an internet issue since I can watch trailers and online videos fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like they changed the code again. I'm not able to browse either.

Same here. No titles under "Browse DVD Titles" or "Browse Watch Now Titles." Also, the "Watch It Now" button is not available for Watch Now movies once found. Hmmmmm......

Netflix did make some changes. They also added RSS feeds for Watch-Now.

We'll have to wait for Morgan to see what he can do to fix plugin though.

Hmm, yes we need a little update. Just got back after being gone for the week. I'll look at that tonight and see what updates I need to make. It doesn't appear to be too bad. On the RSS channels it would have been nice if they added the Watch Instant Queue. Oh well.

Thanks Morgan,

We all sincerely appreciate your efforts.

I have one quick question: Is there any maintenance (specific to this plugin) I should be performing on a routine basis? Things like:

Cleaning out cache folders (if any)
Reinitializing settings
etc?

I would assume not but just wanted to make sure.

8/10/08 Update 2.05a
  • Account for changes to website coding (2.05a 8/10/09)
  • Prevent potential crash when selecting limited number of titles for download or Watch Now for some users (2.05a)

It can be downloaded -->HERE<--
YOU DO NOT NEED TO RE-IMPORT!! The netflix.jar file is the only change to 2.05a.

Had a few page details and URLs that changed.

If anyone still has some shows that do not download or Watch Now correctly (that previously caused a crash of SageTV) then let me know and I'll get you a version to capture some additional data for me.

Not really. The downloaded videos probably expired after a certain time. If I figure how long that is I can auto delete the expired ones in the future.

So, I simply download the zip file, shut down Sage, extract the zip file into place and restart Sage?

Hi Mitch,

As the only thing that changed is the jar file, you probably only need to replace that. Having said that, I copied/overwrote all the files and it's working great.

Thank you very much Morgan! You're a rockstar!

Unrelated question:

1) There seems to be a volume difference between recorded shows and netflix movies (netflix movies seem to be softer in volume...) any idea why? It's not a HUGE deal as I can just up the volume -- I was just curious.

2) Fast-forward / Rewind don't seem to work on the custom player for me... I'm using the Hauppauge 45 button remote. Pause, stop and play buttons do work... perhaps the entire movie has to download first?

Thanks again guys!

Sorry for all the questions... I searched through the forums and didn't find the answer I was looking for...

What's the process for deleting Watch It Now movies that have been downloaded? Can I just manually remove them from the designated folder? Or is there a way I'm supposed to do this from within SageMC?

I just want to make sure I'm not leaving ghost references to previously downloaded files.

Thanks!

MB, You can either delete the file from the designated NetFlix download directory or press the right cursor to delete it. Those files are not maintained in a list. There is a list in netflixwiz.bin that keeps track of the last position in the file that was playing. That is there even after you delete a file and is also relative to a movie played with Watch Now.

The FF/Rew does not work for some WMP installations. I need to see if I can find some WMP setting that may help that. It should not be a problem for downloaded videos.

For the volume, the WMP volume setting may be low. You can control the WMP volume by pressing the vol button during playback. That controls the WMP volume as opposed to the system volume. Don't know if the volume in the Watch Now videos are abnormally low or not.

Out of curiosity, what changed that broke "Watch it now"?

Edit: For simplicities sake I'll also add my follow up question, is this something could be moved into a configuration file for easy/self fixing (i.e. a web address or a scrapping regex) if it happens again when you're indisposed for longer?

Naylia, I was gone a week and forgot to check on your NetFlix plugin review until tonight. Fantastic job on the review.. By the way, I didn't realize there was a problem starting a Watch Now on one movie when downloading another, although I had thought there could be an issue there but forgot to check it. I will look at a fix for that. For the aspect problem, give me a sample movie that displays the wrong aspect and I will see what I can do for that as well.

There were a number of page tags, link id's, and page URLs that had been changed. Finding the format failures is one thing, but I would like to simplify the code to make those updates easier. I will consider the possibility of maintaining parsing properties in a file.

I discovered what could be a smallish bug.
I have the one at a time plan which also means I can only view one stream at a time. Well, if using the browser, apparently the only way to tell the Netflix server that I am done watching a program is by clicking the back to browsing button. Otherwise, the connection to the Netflix server is left open. I have a feeling that the Netflix plugin doesn't send this magical message. So, even though the connection is closed automatically after an hour, if someone watches a movie using the plugin back at home, I have to wait an hour to watch a movie on my PC if I'm on the road.

FF/REW Problem During Video Streaming

Well I found what may be causing the problem of FF/REW not responding while a Watch Now movie is streaming (for sum WMP installations).

I found some information about a pin not connected in the graph of some decoders that affect the specific seek request made by WMP in this streaming situation. I ran deccheck on my server that has the same problem and found that I only have the sage decoder and the ArcSoft decoder. I downloaded a trial of WinDVD and used deccheck to make it the preferred decoder. I noticed that it is also the only one in the installed list that indicates WMP 10 compatability. After making this change there was no longer a problem with FF/REW while the video was still streaming down. I would like to hear if someone else can confirm this solution.
