SageTV client and local storage

Hi,

I just got SageTV with 1 client.
Can i configure the SageTV client to show local data (Divx, DVD, MP3) also ?
Can't seem to find that option ? (or does the client only support data from the SageTV server...)

thanks !

The server is where the media is imported; the client just uses that data & doesn't have its own separate database.

But, you can go to Media Center -> Browse Media Files to play a local file.

You could also try making the folder where that data is located into a network share then entering that address into the Server (media import directory). Enter the address in the UNC format i.e \\pc name\movies.

This may not work all that well if your using a wi-fi connection as the server willl need to recieve the data then send it back to the client.

Not true. If SageTVClient can read the file directly, it will do so without streaming through the server. That's why you want to use UNC paths where possible for import and recording directories. (Placeshifter is a different story; it will always stream.)

A related follow-up: "local browsing" for Placeshifter is the server PC, not the PC where Placeshifter is running.
