Music Library - "Album Artist" and Not "Artist"

I have been tagging "Album Artist" in my library, and Sage shows compilation albums under Artist view OK this way, however, I do not want Sage to also show each track under each artist separately as well. Is there a way to get sage to ignore the Artist tag when the Album Artist tag is available?

If you are referring to the Artists view of the music browser, then you can use the Options command & choose what artist(s) fields to list.

If you are referring to a song's info where it says "By <some artist", then that is based on the artist tag.

I think he's referring to the albums view. When you view by album it doesn't really organize by album. Instead it organizes by album/artist tag which I agree is very annoying. When you have an album with more than one artist, it separates each song into different "albums". Not ideal.

He specifically stated "Artist view", so that's what I based my comments on.

Plus, that view has the ability to show different artist roles: Artist, Album Artist, and Composer. By default, it includes both Artists & Album Artists, fitting his description.

Are you using the default STV? If so, this shouldn't happen if the songs have the Album Artist defined correctly in the songs' tags -- you can check this in WMP by right clicking on songs, selecting Advanced Tag Editor, choose the Artist Info tab, then check the Album Artist field. This tag should be something like "Various Artists" for albums with songs by multiple artists.

Due to sleep deprivation my initial post was a little less coherent than it could have been. I understood that Sage could filter by 'Artist' AND/OR 'Album Artist' tab. Unfortunately much of my collection has no info in the 'Album Artist' field (i.e. non-compilation tracks)


My question was whether there was a way to have it list by 'Album Artist' unless that field was blank, in which case it would just go by artist. In the end I just Copied the 'Artist' field to the 'Album Artist' field for all the empty 'Album Artist' tracks.
