Starting SageTV in LiveTV With Particular Channel
I want to start my SageTV client in Live TV on a particular channel so I can quickly view some video cameras I have piped into one of my tuners. Is there an easy way to do this? I don't see any command line startup options to accomplish this. It seems like it would be possible by sending some commands with various pauses in between them but I don't think this would be very reliable?

Anyone have any ideas how to do this?

Couldn't you just create a channel for your video cameras and then tune in via the program guide? I guess the guide would always be empty, but it doesn't sound like it's particularly an issue. You can still tune directly to the channel via the guide.

Yes, this is what I'm doing but when I start Sage I want it to automatically tune that channel instead of having to select it from the guide.

When I start Live TV, it always goes to the lowest channel number first. Could you set your video as Channel 2 ?

I do have it set as Channel 1 but on my client it always seems to tune to the channel that is currently recording or the last channel watched in Live TV.

So that my wife knew that the SageTV install was working when she turned it on I have a Harmony remote and defined the activity as turning everything on, going to Live TV and inputting a channel number of her favorite station, TCM. This may not help you but this is one way to do it.

gplasky's idea seems like it would work if you've already got a Live TV button on your remote or you are willing to remap a button to Live TV. You could then just set it up to do as he said, start Live TV and tune to your chosen channel.
Seems like a workable way to do this. Of course, this won't work when clicking Live TV from the Sage menu. In case no one else mentions this, I'll do so now. I haven't tried this, and I don't know the real particulars, but there is a way to use Girder or EventGhost to trigger actions when a particular event occurs. So, in this case, the event might be starting Live TV. Perhaps it's possible to then set up your action as a keyboard/remote event, i.e., entering the channel number. Here's a post about using Girder like this: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8945 Hope it helps. Steve |

If you're willing to do some Studio work, a few lines of code in BeforeMenuLoad should do it.

I use HIP (I tried Girder a while back but it seemed to complicated) and HIP works great. You can easily program a button on the remote to do multiple things like Turn on TV and automatically watch TV and go to channel 2.

I agree with you. I tried using Girder, but found it a bit complicated. I understand that it gets much easier once you play around with it a bit. However, I found the EventGhost beta to be very simple and easy to use for remapping remote buttons to do multiple tasks.
My suggestion about using Girder was actually related to making the MENU buttons within SageTV do more--if that's what cncb is after. Using Sage Studio sounds like an interesting option. I've never tried it though, so I can't speak about how easy or difficult it is. Steve |

Thanks, all. I will probably use Greg's Studio approach.

I use EventGhost to automaticly switch to a news channel, I even wrote a article of how I tied it all together. Scat http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25448 |
