DVD Playback issue: No cursor in root menu

Dear Sagies,

I am facing a problem with DVD playback:

When DVD starts, the DVD root menu appears, but nor cursor (of the DVD menu) appears, for example to select language of DVD playback.

Basically the selection works because using the arrow keys I can jump between the possible items but never knowing where I am right now.

I am using latest official SAGE version with SAGEMC but same happened with original STV.

Does anybody coould give me a hint how to resolve?

br, Christian

I've had this problem for quite some time as well. As I recall, it's only with certain DVDs though and I haven't been able to nail down a deciding factor. I don't recall which one did it recently that annoyed me, but I do know that last weekend I watched Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and it worked fine.

Maybe we should begin a list of movies that don't work so that we may find a common thread between them?

Try reselecting the DVD Menu. Sometimes this happens to me, so I just press the DVD MEnu button on my remote and all is well.

Thanks for your tips!

I just tried another MPEG codec (instead of SAGE or my ATI codec) I installled ROXIO cineplayer. - Using this codec within DVD, Its now possible to select the menu.

By the way, does anybody know which is the best available codec, if it is possible to name it anyway? - I heard a lot about POWERDVD and its good performance. - Does anybody could give me some hints on well working codecs?

Figures it would be a MPEG decoder issue... seems every problem I have with Sage can be attributed to a decoder issue. Back to decoder Bingo I guess...

VLC media player 0.8.6e -- the best out there & it is free, open source

Media Player Classic is also a good choice (free too).

Neither one of those products have codecs available to other applications. What cmf is looking for is recomendations like Cyberlink PowerDVD or nVidia Purevideo. I use those. Also Dscaler 5 is a free codec that SageTV can use.

Thanks for all your contribution!
Right now I am testing Cyberlink´s codec and menus are back. - There is only a small issue on the first menu selection screen which shows a blurred picture but after selection, playback is fine.

Anyway, now selection is possible again, so no prob anymore.

Thanks for your support!

News regarding my DVD root menu problem:

I updated my ATI driver for the RADEON 2600 and since now, no problems with displaying the DVd root menu anymore.
Now it doesn´t matter which codec I use, all are working fine.

Thanks for your assistance,
Christian
