remotely kill an mvp without webserver?

I am on vacation, and logged into placeshifter to notice that sage is obviously recording live tv, indicating that an mvp was left on. I never got around to installing neilm's webserver, so i think i'm screwed. any ideas on how to kill it?

if I can't, will it damage my hard drives if it records 24/7 for the next week?

Can you RDP into the server? If so, restarting the SageTV service should do the trick.

Can you delete a source in placeshifter? if you delete the source that the mvp is watching, that might kick it off.. maybe...

I'm not sure though if that option is available when you placeshift in.

My whole system is powered down so I'm afraid I can't test it out.

Or if you can figure out which channel it's recording, just disable that channel and wait a while for the next program to come on. I haven't tried this, but it might work.

Here's something I have tried. Start Placeshifter from a command prompt like so:

Code:
cd \Program Files\SageTV\Placeshifter
java -cp MiniClient.jar;jogl.jar;gluegen-rt.jar sage.miniclient.MiniClient -mac xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx server
replacing xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx with your MVP's MAC address and server with the WAN IP address or FQDN of your server. This should cause the server to drop the MVP connection and give it to your Placeshifter session instead, with the side effect of stopping the recording. But you need to know the MVP's MAC address for this to work.

(Edit: You can also use this trick to launch multiple Placeshifter sessions from the same machine, using different MAC addresses, assuming you have enough licenses.)
