Feature request

Perhaps this is already in the works. I don't consider it a bug so I'm posting this here.

If you hit the remote "record" button, I'd like to see a quick something on the screen. For instance "recording"

Also, I've learned the hard way not to accidentally press the favorites button on the remote. Still before it just sets the favorite and schedules the recordings, some on screen confirmations first.

Examples: Set favorite ?

Personally I'm going to reset the remote button for something else, but would consider it very useful if it has some check feature.

Stuart

While we are requesting features, I would like to see the following keyboard settings (from a remote control standpoint). These are from my use of a TiVo, and from an attempt to minimize the number of keys my universal remote needs.

Since I use my TV for playback, I would like to not have to use the arrow keys on the Hauppauge remote to change channels or volume, but just for menu navigation.

A combo left/back button. When I am watching TV, I would like to be able to hit the LEFT button and have it go back. Everyplace else, it would do the normal "left" function. The "left" button does a back on almost every page but the guide, and that I how I would like to keep it and just add the back fuction to Live TV.

A combo page up, channel up button (and corresponding down). This is the way the TiVo allowed fast navigation and was very useful.

If anyone is interested, I can post a picture of what I was thinking.

Fidget, thats the way snapstream does it. I must say thats one of the major reasons I hated it. My pc pumps through a Klipisch audio system and the vol controls are perfect for me.

My desire was to have the option. For people like me, who use the volume control of the playback device (TV or Stereo), I don't want to have a special set of volume control buttons on the remote for SageTV. So far, I have not reprogrammed my universal remote because I will run out of buttons given the current command compliment.

being able to scan channels in live tv guide by number entry rather than scroll is a big one for me. also hitting the guide button would be better if it opened up right at your current channel rather than at the first channel.

I thought that one was already there. When I go to the Live TV Guide screen, I can enter the channel number followed by ENTER and I jump to that channel. There is no positive feedback as to the channel being entered, but it does work. FWIW, I think the lack of positive feedback is because you can enter a number and then FF or RW key to jump forward or back than number of days in the guide.

There should be some sort of confirmation in the guide showing that you have pushed the numbers. Yes it does work but you need confirmation that the number was pushed.

I agree, some form of data entry feedback is definitely necessary.

Well since we're going for feature requests.

How about some feedback on which language/subtitle, etc on DVD playback.

let's see..feature requests. Sure most of these have been covered/upcoming, but what the hey:

Cover art for imported media(without tags. just would find jpegs, gifs, or bmps in the same folder as the corresponding media file).
An ability to add full media information for imported media files(think myHTPC's ability with metadata files).
Support for audio formats other than just MP3's
Of course, better FF/REW(keep the standard, and also have a more TIVO-like way for those that prefer it).
Ditto on the Confirmations(I prefer having a way of setting many things up in the properties, so maybe an option for that, too)

These are all biggies for me, as I'm hoping that Sage will become the all-in-one Front End and PVR product.

And just imagine when Studio hits!!! I know can't be alone in the anticipation...

I personally would only want to see this as an option where you could have it ocme up with a window or not. I don’t see a need to have a window coming up to confirm if you want to record because there is an extra click that isn’t needed.

But, maybe with an option to enable it or not would work for everyone to pick how they want it. I only see this as a good option to record something “Live” and then select recording settings; otherwise I see no point in having it.

To some degree (even though) it was my suggestion it is somewhat redundant since Sage is constantly recording anyway. Better that I refine my request this way. Keep "buffered" recordings out of the "sage recordings" list, but the record button should signify that this is something you actually want to record. Place that recording in the sage recordings list.

Surfing through the program guide and then going into watch full screen, then back to the guide, etc. creates an enormous list in sage recordings.

I know Tivo is also always recording. There are advantages to this methodology. Perhaps though an option to turn it on and off.

I like the idea of specifiying a seperate folder, and a "use x amount" option for buffered recordings. This will give users the best of both worlds - stored programs should they want them but not immediately visable on the recording list and a limit to the amount of space they will consume.

Tivo is always doing timeshifting. It is not recording unless it's a suggestion or a prescheduled recording.

Not to harp or berate the point (Dan and Jeff please don't kill me) but right now I have 50 gigs of buffered recordings in the Video folder. Basically I left the tv on yesterday, all day. Now outside of the fact that I now have "Weekend at Bernies" , which I failed to program for recording. , I also have a ton of other stuff.
System information window is also somewhat disheartening particularly if I didn't know the reasons why.
Alright I'm going to shut up now.
At least I haven't found much else to whine about

Mike,

Timeshifting = recording. No difference. How it appears to the end user is the difference.

I disagree Stuart. While Timeshifting = recording, one could imagine that only the last 30 minutes of recording is ever kept (unless told otherwise). Sage keeps everything, not just hte last 30 minutes.
