Notice: DirecTV D11 update and SerialControl (TV Translator users)

Early this month (Mar 4th for me), DirecTV sent down a firmware update that brought my units to version 0x1072. Upon this update, the banner suppression features of the patersontech TV Translator (USB-Serial DirecTV controller), no longer work.

I sent this in to patersontech, and they confirmed that the new firmware no longer seems to respond to banner suppression. For those not sure what that means, it means the top Information Bar (the banner they call it) that is displayed after a channel change event, will remain up there for a brief period before going away.

Patersontech may or may not know a trick to get around this, and may or may not update their software for it. They didn't say, because its obviously too early for them to say such things.

Why DirecTV took out the ability... either oversight, or just plain malice on their part, is beyond my knowledge at this time. Trying to get an answer from DirecTV will most likely require pulling a few molars and racking up a phone bill enough to buy a small island.

Patterson confirmed the DirecTV update no longer allows full suppression of the banner.
