System Lock with HVR-1800 Recording

I have 2 cards in my HTPC. A PVR-150 and an HVR-1800.
The 150 has been working great for years. The HVR-1800 is new.
If I just use the 150 as a video source everything is fine.
If I delete it as a source, and add the HVR-1800 (S-Video input from regular cable stb), things start going wrong.
I've been doing some testing, and it looks like if I create a timed recording, the system locks when it gets about 4 or 5 minutes in to it.
In my tests I created a timed recording starting a minute from 'now', lasting about 4 minutes. No problem. So I create another one on a different channel, for about 4 or 5 minutes, and it starts ok. As it approaches the end it locks up. The whole system is unresponsive and I have to reset the PC.
All of these are recording from regular SD channels. It doesn't appear to be the channel itself, as I tried this 3 times in a row, all with random channels.

When I switch the video source back to the PVR-150, everything is fine again.
I have the latest drivers on the Hauppauge main site installed (cd 3.4d1).

I'm running windows xp sp2, Sage v6.3.10.166
Java v 1.6.0_03
Standard STV
1Gb ram

With debug logging enabled I get this:

It is recording to a remote directory, but that works fine with the 150.
I have also experienced this without the 150 in the PC. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling both java and sage. No joy.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Are the quality settings the same for both video sources (i.e. both pushing data at the same rate onto the remote directory)?

I noticed the problem one is set at 2GB/hr -- which shouldn't be a problem. But perhaps you can try a slower rate as a test to see if still locks up.

Ray...

Yeah, I believe I have them both set the same, which is the 'Great' setting.
I will try changing that this evening and see if it still reproduces.

I just managed to reproduce it doing a channel scan in the WinTV app
Guess it's time to contact Hauppauge.

I am having the exact same problem with my brand new 1800. Did you confirm it was a defective card? I have systematically ruled out everything but the card, but was hopping it was just a driver bug or something.

Not yet, I have 2 more things left to try. First is a BIOS update on the PC it is installed in, and the 2nd is to try it in another machine (which is going to take some juggling ).
I'm out of town atm, so I'll be trying that this week.

Good luck with your testing. Unfortunately my 1800 has gotten worse with artifacts, static, and distortions when viewing a S-Video input (on top of the crashing well recording) . I'll be calling Hauppauge today about a RMA number.

Did you get your RMA number?
Updating BIOS etc on my pc did nothing to help it. Awaiting next email from Hauppauge.
