STX-HD100 Discover Server Fails

Ubuntu 7.10, 2.4GHz Intel Celeron, 640MB RAM

I start the server with sudo ./startsage
Verify the server is running with ps -ef and see java running sage
Try to start the extender and get no server connection.

I get it to work on the Windows side (dual boot), so I know the connections are good.

Need help please
Thanks
Eric

Is SageTV on the Linux server configured so that the "SageTV Server" and "Media Extender and PS Server" options are enabled in Detailed Setup -> Sever?

There are properties for those options, but I mean in the user interface on the server. Placeshifter runs as the UI on the server & can always connect to its local server.

I just installed the extender.
I didn't install the placeshifter.
I'm guessing that that would solve my problem??

Well, it would make it easier to configure things on the server.

You could try setting these properties instead, but there may be some other things that work better when configured from the server & the server UI would be handy to have:

enable_media_extender_server=true
enable_server=true

These two lines are set correctly in the Sage.Properties file
I'm now loading the Placeshifter.
Does Placeshifter run on top of the server or instead of the server??

If those properties are already set, then it must be a different issue & I'll leave that to people who know more about Linux...

For some reason, in the Sage.properties, on the linux server, I have to set my server's ip explicitly in order to enable my extenders to connect to the sage server. i don't think windows users have this issue.

linux/network/ip_address=192.168.1.10
miniserver/forced_server_ip=192.168.1.10

192.168.1.10 is my Sage server's ip address.

I don't have any UI to get to "Detailed Setup -> Server"
I went to the Client and run sudo ./sageclient.sh
When this UI opened it asks for Locator Id. I don't know what this is.

I don't have any UI on the server.

According to the Requirements section of my Extender book, I need to Register the extender. Without a GUI, how do I do this. It seems as if I'm missing a piece of the software puzzle.

You have to install Placeshifter on your server in order to have the UI on that PC. For Linux, the core always runs as a service & the UI comes from Placeshifter installed on that same system.

It doesn't have to be the same system though. Just ssh into your server from a client with PS on it and forward the port.

Code:
ssh -L 31099:localhost:31099 server_ip

In doing this, Do I now have to set a Static IP vs DHCP in the extender??

I now have the placeshifter up and running on my Linux PC.
The time is off by 2 hours though.

Trying to get the extender connected.

Problem solved!
I have Firestarter installed on my machine but don't use it. I use my router firewall.
I don't know why but I have to disable the Firestarter firewall even though it doesn't show up in any ps -ef or system monitor.

Well I'm up & running
Thanks
Eric
