High Ram usage
I just had a problem with not being able to get rid of the sage screen saver so I went to end the process and I noticed that sage was using 200 Mb of ram. That seems crazy high to me. I don't remember how much ram 1.4 was using but I don't think it was that high. Is anyone else finding this?

Sage uses ~90Mb on my system, can't remember looking before but now I'm using about 211Mb of ram total. That seems in line with what 1.4 used.

1.4 used around 50-60MB for me. 2.0 is at about 160 right now... I hope it's just because there is a lot of debug code included.

Ram is cheap. Bleh!

SageTV v2 is using about 150-170 MB for me as well

I would not look at this until final is released. I know Frey puts all kinds of code in there for debugging purposes that causes higher RAM and CPU usage.

I just check my ram usage while sagetv was sleeping. It's at 182mb for the sagetv v2 process. Not a big deal for me since I have a gig of ram in this box, but I could see how it could be a problem for some people.

Weird... Mine's been running continuously since Saturday and is only 19MB. Has recorded a dozen or more shows in that time. Watched well over a dozen shows on the clients.
Hmmm... I never watch anything on this machine, I watch everything from my clients. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Jason |

What kind of tuners are you all using? I'm just using one 350 and have h/w only turned on. I have 4-5% usage w/ live TV and only about 19mb on the sage process...not that i'm bragging or anything...
What an awesome program. |

The memory usage must depend on what the program recetly did, or even what the oS needs to do, since my client is sleeping & now at 141MB, while SageTV is sleeping and recording & is only using 25MB. I also believe that the memory usage of the beta isn't overly meaningful since it is not teh final release code.

I am noticing this too, though I would suggest that perhaps SageTV is suffering from a memory leak (some object is allocated somewhere and never cleaned up). When I first start SageV2, it's using memory comparable to how much V1 used when it first started up (~60 MB), but for instance, my current instance of SageTV has been up for 15 hours, and it is using 225 MB of RAM. I do use this computer for other things besides PVRing, so I can't have Sage eating up all of my RAM. I know that this being a beta release, there is a lot of debug code in there, but if this excessive RAM usage is caused by a memory leak, such a bug could make it all the way to the final release if it is left uncorrected. Memleaks are difficult to track down for programmers, so I don't know whether this will be an easy fix or not, or if anything even needs to be fixed.
My other suggestion off hand is that I really miss the on-screen toolbar with the icons in it for controlling Sage with the mouse. I hope that gets added back into SageV2. Also the scheduling conflict resolution screen in SageV1 was very impressive, and I have not seen it in V2. |

Yeah I get about 120MB and CPU usage about 15% to 25% using VMR9
But this does seem high and I think I have seen my memory usage at 250MB before |

Not everyone would be subjected to a memory leak if they don't all hit the same lines of code.

True. Perhaps I should rephrase. I've noticed that the memory goes up quite high at times and then comes back down later -- that's just my experience. I would suggest simply watching to see what happens over a longer period of time. Does it ever get reduced, especially when it sleeps? Anything in particular that you use sageTV for when you see a large amount of memory used that doesn't seem to eventually away?

Well after a restart SageTv using 61MB before reboot using 112 I believe could have been more
