HD extender and Multiple Audio Tracks

So I'm stumped. I'm trying to encode some TV episodes from DVDs I own, and I want to be able to switch back and forth on the media extender between the real soundtrack and the commentary track.

But I seem to be unable to find the right settings on my encoder. Using Handbrake on the mac, I tried a bunch of variations of mp4 containers, none of which produced results which allowed my HD extender to see both tracks, even though Quicktime on the Mac could see them and switch between them.

Then I tried an AVI container, but Handbrake stopped encoding every time about halfway through the second pass (come to think of it, I never tried a one pass encode...) Am I on the right track? What combinations has anyone else found that allows the HD extender to flip between multiple audio tracks?

Thanks!

Thus far SageTV doesn't really have very good support for multiple sound tracks. I believe they added support for AVI but I'm not sure. I'm hoping they'll improve MKV support. AVI doesn't really support H.264 very well.

I open bug for them, and provied them MKV file with 2 audio tracks + subtitles week ago.
Try also to ask them to implement it, may be this will priorities this problem.
Also no subtitles menu in HD Extender.

Yes, I've asked support about chapter support and soft subtitle support in MKV files. They told me those were planned for a future version. From the answer I got it's probably on their priority list somewhere. They didn't indicate where on their priority it might be though.

Chapters are more crucial to me. It would be nice to have soft subtitle support but I can wait. Till then the few conversions I have with subtitles are fine with them burned into the video.

I provided the same over 3 months ago when HD extender first came out. SO far no luck. This is very high on my wish list since without it we are not able to watch any foreign movies.

Hello George,

I open half year ago following issues for HD Extender:
1) no voice language track to choice from the Menu
2) no subtitle to choice from the Menu

Could you please update status of those issues?

I did the same week or two ago when I was uploading some material to troubleshoot the bugs I have found. They said the subtitles are on their list of things to do and now they just need to get to it.
