Yellow TV, Red '!'

"What does it all mean, Basil??"

I have a Yellow TV icon with a big red '!' in the upper right area of my Sage. I assumed it meant that SAGE was recording. Nope. Checked sysinfo. No recording gioing on.

What does that indicate? Updating Listings?

It means you have a recording conflict - multiple shows scheduled to record at the same time and SageTV doesn't know which one you wish for it to record over the other. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this one.

Ahhh That makes sense.. It just happened right after I intentionally scheduled a conflict to see what would happen.

DOH!!

Thanx. Nice to know there is some sort of up front visual indicator.

Thanx again..

unfortunately, resolving these conflicts is MUCH harder than in previous versions.
The Recording Conflicts menu just lists the conflicts, and gives details. Nothing more.
Seems that the only way to resolve the conflicts, is to go to the recording manually(which is VERY time consuming), and to clear it.

heMixxMaster, just move the correct show to record higher in the favorites list. The top favorites have priority over the lower ones.

Assuming this isn't just a UI oversight, I think this is something that should be setup as an option. There was a fair amount of discussion about how 1.4 handled priorities. I personally would prefer the old 1.4 method(of forcing a choice each time) but I can see why some would want more control like in Sage2. Oh well, we'll see. I bet that it's just a UI oversight and that both methods will be available in a future release.

justme, I agree. Having sage decide by priority as default is good but you should have the option to override on the information screen.

Yeah, I just recently reset my Tivo because I was missing shows I wanted to watch. The Season Pass list was soo long(~100) that it was unmanable. I had shows being recorded that I'd already seen instead of new shows of a lower priority. In this respect SageTV is already way ahead of Tivo(even back in 1.4). I'm sure it will only get better.

Why not allow clicking on the "!" to popup an instant resolution option? That way it is unobtrusive for when you don't want to be bothered (such as in the middle of a show), but can still be resolved instantly without going through a bunch of menus.

Really, I find SageTV v2 very unfriendly to mouse users. I really miss the context sensitive (right-click) menus of v1.4. Everything seems to require jumping around a bunch of menus and switching back and forth between keyboard, mouse, and even remote to do what were simple intuitive tasks in v1.4.

I'd really like to see a "classic" skin (but with some v2 unique functionality enhancements) ship with the final V2 release. If not, perhaps someone with some time on their hands will use Studio to make one.

Send a message via AIM to ErsatzTom
From the original beta announcement:
Quote:

2. Icons have not been introduced for this beta version. We are currently
working on a new skin that will get loaded if you want to control SageTV
with your mouse. It will essentially be the same UI with modifications to
make room for necessary icons.
I'd say that they recognize that the current version is not very mouse friendly and intend to address the issue.

My fault, I read "Icons have not been introduced..." and thought they were talking
about channel icons and didn't pay attention to the rest of the message.

Sounds like exactly what I want.

select it in the fav manager push the right arrow. You can then move it up or down. Push the other direction to deselect.

I had a "schedule conflict", but it only specified one show. No information about which show it conflicted with, or what time it conflicted. Does this mean that the user has to manually go through each scheduled recording and checking the future airings, or is this a bug?

I always complained about that with my Tivo. Whenever there was a conflict with a dual tuner setup, it gave you the option of cancelling only one show/tuner. So one has to go back, find out which show is being recorded on the OTHER tuner and see if that might be a better candidate for deletion.

The whole recording concept and process of Sage needs to be made more user friendly and more AI.

Basically, accomplish the most with the least amount of button pushes.

Consider that a Beta observation.

It could be a little of both. This is a UI that is still being fleshed out, just look at the additions from .10 to .11. To be safe I'd file a Bug report like suggested in the bets tester email. Also Dan has posted in this forum that thay would like "feature request" posted as bugs ,as well, so they don't miss them. Based on 1.4.10's behavior I'd say it's a bug, but with Dan's statement you can't lose either way.
