Slow music browsing - can thumbnails be disabled?

I've got several thousand cd's in my flac library, cover art is scanned to about 900x900, average jpeg size is about 1mb. I've read several thread suggesting to cut the cover art size down. However, I don't want to do this. Sage is not the only client accessing my music library, and other clients seem to be able to handle to larger artwork with no problem. I enjoy the benefit of having large scans of the cover art in other front-ends.

Is it possible to just disable the thumbnails when browsing at the genre or artist level? I could live with disabling cover art altogether, if that's the only way to make browing acceptable. I'd prefer if I could see the cover art once I browse into an album, since only one jpeg would need to load, and I'd also like to see the cover art during the visualization.

But if I need to outright disable it, that's fine. All I know is that browsing music is bloody painful right now.

Thanks...

There isn't an option to disable album art. To do that, you would need to edit the STV.

You could try setting this property in the server's sage.properties file:

ui/enable_hardware_scaling_cache=true

Yeah, tried that already. There's some improvement, but not enough. Music browsing is still painfully slow. In case it's relevant, I'm talking about using a hi-def extender.

This is so unfortunate. I have a Squeezebox connected to a 2-channel stereo. I compare the performance of the mucic player in Sage to that of the Squeezebox and I am so disappointed. I had hoped to replace my htpc with nothing more than a hi-def extender, but it appears I will need a Squeezebox connected to my home theater as well. The capabilities are all there but the performance makes it simply unusable.

What version of SageTV are you using? If it isn't v6.3.10, try that one.

Yes, I'm running 6.3.10. And even with the cache line in the properties set to true (and stopping/starting sagetv service and hard-reset of the hd extender), when browsing the music library by genre, it takes between 10-30 seconds between the time I hit an arrow button on the remote and the movement of the highlighted genre on screen. Simply unusable. And note that this is an improvement over having the cache property set to false...

Please submit a bug report so that SageTV can look into it further.

Also: are you using the default STV w/o any customizations? If not, see how that works first.
