Demo,

In PAL it looks great on S-Video.

You've sorted this out really quickly which is brilliant.

Many thanks,

David

I have installed the new beta without any problems and now have the HD100 setup to start-up at 720p@50hz over HDMI.
Picture looks great, but I have noticed the audio stopped working through the analogue L+R's after the update, HDMI audio works fine though.
Thanks for your effort in getting this sorted

Thanks for the update.
I have tested it via HDMI to two different HD TVs (I have two HD Extenders) and both work fine - one at 720P and one at 1080P 50hz.

As of now, with this firmware. I've got to give my TV the honors.
That said, the scaling in the extender is so much better now, that my wife even commented how much better the picture looked.

It is still a beta.

Was thinking about that too. I haven't messed around much witch those entries yet. And I can understand SageTV if they want to keep it simple for majority of users. But if someone makes a recipe for how to achieve NTSC in addition to PAL, please tell. I'll probably experiment in the weekend myself.

Totally agree. I think many people use beta and expect release quality. I expect everything close to, but not including, my Extender blowing up My issues may be gone by release. Just wanted to highlight them.

Of course I just have a regular SDTV. I'm in the US and have no problem viewing Doctor Who and Torchwood rips, which are all at 25fps, on my NTSC TV.

And that is true the other way around too (I can view all NTSC stuff without problems as of now, without adjustments, in PAL mode). It's just that the HD Extender is doing the conversion between 480i/p -> 576i/p or 576i/p -> 480i/p & 25/50Hz vs 30/60Hz. But I want the HD Extender to send the 480i/p@30/60 directly to my TV, without converting it to 576i/p@25/50. Because I then experience a better picture when the TV does what it does best with the native 'untouched' data/signal.

I might be wrong in some of my assumptions. But this is how I understand the situation as of now. Don't be afraid to correct me, that's how I learn new stuff

This is much better

I did find a few things though, which seem to clarify a few points that came up before.

If during the extender boot setup I tell it the TV is capable of 576p and 1080i, it will always boot into 576p

With 'Native Output Resolution Swicthing' enabled in setup-detailed setup-multimedia, all of my sources will switch it to 1080i.
They are the pvr350 and dbv-s (HD and non-HD).

As everything switches it to 1080i, I changed it so that it would only allow 1080i in the extender boot setup. It then booted straight in at 1080i.

If I go to setup-detailed setup-multimedia, 'Native Output Resolution Swicthing' is no longer there - I expect this is because there are no other resolutions that you can switch to.

The question is, have I set it up correct, with only 1080i selected in the extender boot setup?

This for HDMI. Of course, only the resolutions supported by your TV will work.
Code:
extender_resolution_extra_modes=720x480i@60|standard\=HDMI_480i60;720x480p@60|standard\=HDMI_480p60;1280x720p@60|standard\=HDMI_720p60;1920x1080p@60|standard\=HDMI_1080p60;1920x1080i@60|standard\=HDMI_1080i60
One of the really cool things about these entries is that you can also use them for automatic scaling when using native resolution switching. An example would be
Code:
720x576i@50|standard\=HDMI_1080i50;720x576p@50|standard\=HDMI_720p50
will output 576i material as 1080i50 and 576p material as 720p50

It's not very obvious but in this screen where you are setting up the available resolutions, if you press the remote control video out key, it switches to the "current resolution" and makes it the default.

Doh! I feel a complete thicky now. It says it right in front of your face!

Maybe I should take my time and actually read the screen!

Thanks for pointing that out.

I am having a problem with the new beta version, PAL and spdif.

I am trying to view using HDMI/COMPOSITE and to output sound via SPDIF.

It does not output sound to SPDIF at all.
Has any one come across this problem????

I have not used any other versions of the beta, and I have gone streight to PAL, since i just got my HD-1000, so I do not know if its a problem, only in the PAL mode.

I did search the forums, and came up empty.

I tried to enable PAL mode several times now, but I can't get it to work. I actually did the switch with the first beta firmware with PAL support, but I had to change back due to some other reason.

But with the latest firmware I’ve not been able to switch back to PAL again. Can someone help me with a detailed tutorial on this? Please

Have you tried the PAL section in the STX-HD100 manual?
