Browse By Category

Where does the list of categories come from for the Browse By Category panel? I would like to be able to remove categories that I would never use to make the list smaller.

Thanks,
Eric

If you start Studio while using that menu, Studio will open at the menu. The list of categories is created/processed in the BeforeMenuLoad hook.

Andy,

Thanks. I took a look at that and noticed that it calls GetAllCategories("T"). I see that I can edit the categories that Sage uses to color code the EPG but it only shows 5 categories but in the Browse By Category page there are tons of categories. How can I set what categories that Sage has in its database?

Eric

The category color coding is only predefined for 5 categories; you can add more color coding via the "Add Category" button in the dialog showing the color coded categories, then choose a category & set its color.

The categories come from the EPG data.

OK, so I'm trying to create a Java class that will do the filtering. I have put the class in a jar file that has another class that I am already using in Sage so I know the jar file is correct but I am getting the following error when I try to use it.

Code:
Tue 5/27 12:07:21.208 Parsing Error: Unexpected ")" at column 28.
Expression: sHelper = new_com_hb_util_SageHelper()
The syntax looks correct to me but I'm sure that I am just missing something stupid.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Thanks,
Eric

UPDATE: It was something stupid. Even though I had looked at the code for a while I missed that the package was utils not util. Since it was a parsing error I figured I was doing something wrong in studio (well technically I was). I figured that if I didn't have the class right I would get a ClassNotFound error or something like that.

Is there a way I could use this feature for imported videos instead of epg listings? In other words it would look at the metadata for my imported videos and create a list of categories using the category or "genre" field. Then sort the imported videos accordingly.
