There was also this little fact in that thread; someone was using VisualHub to transcode.. Which is powered by ffmpeg, which hopefully means we'll see support for MVP and PS clients soon. I sent the ffmpeg info into SageTV.

i'm wondering if anyone who could not get the HDPVR to start recording (just turn the red light on) have gotten it to work. i've reinstalled XP and only things i need for sage. i can get it to change channels on my Dish STB, but it never starts recording, just says "No Signal". i had got it to show once. and that was when i first added the source and it was doing the preview. since then nothing. i tried changing the input on the HDPVR to svideo and still no red light. i've also installed the newest drivers for the device.

I think that guy was on the money.... I could only get it to run for about 1-5 minutes and freeze and had to power cycle it. I took the cover off and placed a 120mm fan blowing down on it, and it has been recording for 2 hours now without any issues...

I did the same thing (except using 2x 80mm fans, all I had laying around). I'm up to 1 hour and going strong. I've NEVER gone past 5 minutes!!!

I've now been sucessfully using the HD-PVR since 9AM this morning (with the fans on it)!!!

Who knows. May be a software/firmware fixable problem or may be that the ventilation is inadequate. I'm fairly confident that Hauppauge will sort it out.
Much like everyone else on this thread (apparently) I am having the lockup issue. The install required me to perform the hardware clear procedure and I upgraded to beta 6.4.3 to be able to see the component input option in SageTV's setup.

Can you please forward (via PM if necessary) the rep you've been working with @ Hauppauge? I'd like to send my unit back for evaluation as well.

More clues...

My STB is configurable -- I can set the output resolution (480p, 720p, or 1080i).

When I set the STB to 480, the HD PVR works beautifully. I can capture (via component) in the ArcSoft application and also in Sage, and it works for hours.

When I set it to 720 or 1080, I experience the same blank screen / no signal issue that many others in this thread have experienced. Interestingly, in the ArcSoft app it does detect the correct input resolution, but the playback display remains blank. Passthrough continues to work like a champ, and my TV set has no problem displaying the signal at the correct resolution.

In short, my HD PVR does not handle HD input resolutions, but it does handle SD input resolutions (via component). I'm not sure where to go from here -- if anyone has any troubleshooting suggestions, I'm all ears!

bretm,
you've got more than i got. i just reinstalled all the cd drivers and software then updated to the beta drivers. i can now get the red light to turn on in the Arcsoft Extreme software, but still not in sage. even though the red light turns on, the capture still fails in the arcsoft software no matter the resolution. my pass through works fine so i know i have good connections.

Count me among those with a unit that's overheating. It will capture for a few minutes before freezing. As much as I want to use it, I'm not willing to void my warranty by opening it up so I'm going to request an RMA. This has been a pretty disastrous launch for Hauppauge. First the delays, then the discovery that it won't do 5.1 initially, and now it seems most of the units that finally made it out overheat.

HD PVR and STX-HD100 issue?

Hi everyone,

I'd like to start out by saying thank you to the members of these forums. The active and very helpful forums made it easy for me to pull the trigger and jump in with Sage.

I believe I'm having the same issue as bretm. I do not believe that the issue is with the HDPVR, but rather something I have set incorrectly with Sage. I am able to preview, view and record from the HD PVR, but only can see the video from the Sage server. My server is very slow, so the video is not smooth, but the fact that it works is more than I was expecting. (It doesn't play back sd over sage smoothly due to weak built in graphics card.)

I can not see any HD PVR video through my HD Extender. When playing a recorded video from the HD PVR that works on the server, the extender won't play it. I see a still screen in the preview window, but when I play it, the screen goes black. If I go to the menu to see if the preview window works, it is black as well.

The extender has never had any issues playing back any 1080i or 720p from my HDHR, and handles H.264 video from my Casio digital camera (through Sage) without any problems.

I have reinstalled Sage and reapplied the latest beta (just restoring wiz.bin and sage.properties) with the same results.

I'd appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions what I might be able to try.

Thanks much!
Jason

Same problem as Jason

I can capture on my server and playback on client, but no playback on HD1000. Blank screen when playing video. Anyone else have this issue.

Are you running the latest beta firmware on the extender?

Check that you have the latest beta firmware on your extender.

Current Firmware

Yep, I forgot to mention that step of debugging, I verified the latest firmware before reinstalling Sage.

Thanks

Just to make sure, did you enter 2382 at the firmware update screen to check for the latest beta version?

Aloha,
Mike

Firmware Updates

I'm not quite sure what that means to enter 2382.

Here is what I did: I booted the extender by hitting the home key. Going into the settings screen then hitting "Firmware Update", I see "You currently are using firmware version: 10080204 0". Then if I hit the "Check for Updates" button, I get "There are no new updates available.".

Am I missing another way to check for updates?

Beta Firmware

Got it!
I had tried to type 2382 previously, but it must not have been at the right place. When I typed it on the update page as you guys mentioned, it switched to allow Beta updates. I am downloading it now and will test and report back.

Thanks.

Problem solved

Thanks for the beta firmware tip. That was exactly the issue. I am now able to view the recordings on the Media Extender.

Thanks!

add me to the list in the RMA group. i tried the HDPVR on my Vista laptop and got the same results as my HTPC w/ XP. figured it has to be something wrong with the unit.

Well... looks like I'm going to join this unhappy group of SageTV users =)

I ordered (and received) 2 HD-PVR units. One is working fine, and the other one turns on the red light for a few seconds when told to encode, but then either leaves it stuck on or turns it off and in both cases no video is actually recorded.

Since I've got one unit working perfectly fine and another that's exhibiting the same problem everyone here is talking about, my feeling is that it's certainly a hardware problem.. hopefully something that can be fixed with a firmware and/or driver update. I sent a note into Hauppauge support so we'll see what happens.

If anyone is interested, I have the serial number and presumably the manufacture week/year from the stickers on the bottom of the boxes:

Sticker on bottom of broken HDPVR: 2008 10607403
Sticker on bottom of working HDPVR: 2108 10607992

The "newer" box manufactured week 21 2008, serial number 10607992 is the working box and the older box manufactured week 20 2008 is not working. I'd be curious to know what other people's serial numbers/manufacture dates were just to see if there is any indication that there is just a bad "batch" of units.

-Dan
