Will this work?

I'll try not to confuse everyone.. I want to setup a dedicated sage box.. 2 tuners to replace my exsisting Showshifter Box. One attached to my Dish box via S-Vid, and one to CableTV via coax.

Can I run sage (SAT) without using the programming guide... use it for just watching, and "instant replay", and changing channels with the SAT remote. While using the 2nd tuner as a recording card with EPG?

I see some problems with this... ie the sat would never stop recording and would generate some big files. I realize I can get a IR blaster/USBIRT and solve a lot of this... but this is more of a can I do this? How does Sage deal with a tuner without an EPG.. This is what I would thing that SageRecorder is like, maybe?

Thanks!!

I've never tried to set it up that way. I don't know if you can get thru setup with out setting up an epg. If you can then you can set the tuner to a single channel (3) and switch channels using your set top box. Sage should handle deleting the files that are created and in setup you can tell it to leave a certain amount of disk space.

Sage really isn't designed to be used that way. Having said that, I'm sure that are any number of ways you could make it do approximately what you want it to do. What I don't really get, though, is why you would want to do it this way. You would have all the pieces to get full dual tuner epg except ir control of your dish box. Why not got the last couple of feet... it is probably less of a headache than trying to dumb down sage and has a lot of benefits.

Yeah I know your right... I was just thinking out loud. I will look at getting some type of IR transmitter. Just waiting on a new case and extra 250/250 cards to start doing all of this.

Thanks for the advice!
