Extender locks up and shuts off one first boot screen - can I reflash or hardreset?

my hd extender was working fine, I only had it maybe a month.

I power down the pc and the tv goes blank as expected. I restarted up the server and power cycled the extender and I get nothing.

to make things simple as possible I have local tv in the closet with the extender using a single composite cable.

I get the first page of the startup screen and then the green light goes out.

I assume that is bad.

I tried doing what I thought was a hard reset
1. power off in pack
2. hold menu/up
3. power on from back

but I didnt know if I then release menu/up and then hit the power on the front or what I had to do next.

is there another way to reset? can I reflash? or does this have to rma'd?
