I'm not sure what happened, but I cannot tune any channels with my HDHR any longer. Scans in WHS using the HDHR software seems to locate them (since it's WHS, previewing isn't possible), but Sage can't seem to find any. To try and fix this, I upgraded to the latest beta HDHR firmware and am using the latest Sage beta in WHS with the previous beta (.19) on my client PC, but still have the same issue.
Following the 1st post's directions, I tried the following steps to start from scratch: All being done on my WHS box: 1. Shut down SageTV service 2. Uninstall HDHR software 3. Delete Doc&Settings Silicon Dust folder 4. Delete any HDHR files from Sage directory (.scn or .frq) 5. Install HDHR beta firmware 6. Run HDHR setup, setting country, zip code, main app to SageTV, tuners to Digital Antenna (both say status OK), skipping channel scan, touching nothing in "Advanced" 7. Close HDHR setup 8. Start SageTV service 9. Start SageTV client (still in WHS) 10. Add new source (HDHR), select digital antenna, US guide data, OTA, NY Digital broadcast, scan for channels, full scan No channels are found. What am I missing? Maybe this is a really crazy question, but is there any chance that when the installer mounted the antenna on the roof last year and aimed it, he wound up pointing it towards an analog tower and that tower doesn't work any longer? Sounds crazy to me, since I was getting excellent HD reception and PQ and it was around the digital transition that this problem seemed to begin. But, I think I'll install the HDHR software on my client PC and see if I can view channels there, to rule out this possibility. Anything else in the interim?

SageTV for HDHR OTA doesn't need the Silicondust app to scan anymore. I think you may want to get rid of any of your .scn files in Sage and just scan the channels from within Sage. I'm not doing OTA so I'm not speaking from experience. Also make sure to remove the HDHR Video source from Sage and add it as new.

Thanks, Gerry. I checked the server and the client PC for both .frq and .scn files just to be certain and deleted them all, then reinstalled the HDHR software. I've also removed and readded the sources several times, including before and after rebooting the server itself. I'm almost HOPING that it's an issue with the antenna, since pointing it in the right direction is a much easier thing to troubleshoot... just a little more dangerous to fix, though! ;D

I didn't think to see what happens with my Avermedia M780 if I delete and re-add it as a source. I deleted the M780, did a channel scan, and it found a bunch of channels, so I don't believe this is an antenna issue. (Hmm... should I be happy or sad about that? )

any news on the VLC works, but sage dosn't tune problem?
Does anyone have any updates on the issue where channels can be viewed in VLC (and my TV can tune the channels), but the channels show up with "no signal" in SageTV?
I've got the latest software/firmware/stv updates for the hdhomerun and sagetv as of this date. I looked at the signal issue and while the signal is pretty strong with all the channels, the qam channels that actually tune in sage show at least 15 megabits/second in the hdhomerun config gui. The channels that VLC tunes but sagetv does not are only 2 to 2.5 megabit per second 480i channels. |

I did not see a SageTV debug log in that zip.
If you've followed the QAM tuner setup instructions exactly as written in the first post of this thread, then you should contact tech support. - Andy

Missing .scn files
OS: Windows 7
SageTV: 6.6.2 HDHR: 20090830 (digital cable for both tuners) I've followed the instructions in the first post of this thread and at silicondust several times now and have been unable to get channels configured correctly in Sage. After reading this thread in more detail I now understand that the HDHR Setup should be creating the .scn files for me and that Sage will then use those for its channel scan. However, there are NO .scn files in the SageTV folder, nor anywhere else on my system! (I guess the channel scan in Sage was trying to do it all itself and that is why it was taking forever to run and ended up with just a few channels that were misconfigured.) I have SageTV installed in a non-standard location (so I wouldn't have to deal with the VirtualStore.) Could this be what is throwing off the HDHR setup? Any ideas what might be happening to my .scn files? I've tried rerunning HDHR setup to try and get some .scn files generated, but no luck. Is there any suggestions to work around this in some other way? |

Check the virtual store to see if a SageTV directory exists anyway. c:\Users\username\Appdata\local\virtualstore. It's normally hidden so you won't find files in it during a search. HDHomeRun Setup will default to writing files into the SageTV folder in the virtualstore if it exists, so just delete the SageTV folder in there and rerun HDHomeRun Setup to generate scn files in the correct location.

I do not have any SageTV folders under VirtualStore/Program Files.

Ok, it turns out that if UAC is turned on then the HDHR Setup will still try to use the SageTV folder under the VirtualStore even if Sage is installed someplace else which is not protected by UAC.

Sage will not pick up channels
This is so frustrating.
I have tried everything. Here is the jist of it: 1. Uninstall Sage due to some non related issues 2. Re-installed sage and re-ran HDHR setup. Sage would not pick up channels even though I could watch them fine in VLC. 3. Uninstalled and deleted all traces of Silicon Dust (even the registry, .frq files, etc) and re-installed. No luck. 4. Just installed the new HDHR beta 20090923beta2 and had no luck 5. I have been trying to get tech support to help but their response time is terrible. I started a dialog over 2 weeks ago and have made zero progress. 6 i am running the latest sage on XP MCE. I attached the latest log file. Please help, my wife is going crazy! Thanks. |

Make sure all Media Center services are shutdown and disabled. Make sure SageTV is shutdown or not running in the system tray. Make sure no .frq or .scn files exist in the SageTV directory. Go to the Silicondust Setup and go to the Advanced tab and press the repair button. Now go to the location tab set it correctly. Go to the Application tab and make sure SageTV is chosen. Go to the tuners tab and make sure you see both and digital cable or the correct antenna is chosen. Now go to Cable channels and scan for the channels. WHen the first tuner is done rename the guide name and channel number to the Zap2it listing. (like wwjhd and 231) once done with the first tuner do the same with the seconf tuner. When that is done set it up in Sage and make sure you scan the channels for each tuner.
Your log is showing it isn't finding the .frq file. Make sure you run all of the Silicondust setup before going into Sage. And Sage must be installed before running the Silicondust setup. Gerry

Thanks for the reply. The one thing I have not done that you mentioned is disable media center services. Do you know which ones I should be looking for?

I disabled all of the media center services (everything starting with "eh") and repaired the installation from the advanced tab. Still is not working.
I have tried everything else that you have mentioned. Any other ideas? HDHR was working perfect before that 1st re-install. What a bummer. |

Make sure the HDHR didn't go bad. Go to the SIlicondust forum and open a support ticket. Enable debug logging in the HDHR setup application. Does it work with their Quickview TV or VLC application?

I figured it out!
I was using ESET anti-virus and it was somehow stopping the programs from communicating. I uninstalled it and re-ran everything and BAM!, it works. Thanks for the suggestions. |

NKOB Question
Setup: OTA Antenna, HDHomerun, Sage Home Theater, Linksys Switch etc.
I am having the same issue as described within this forum and am banging my head against the table. HDHR lists 28 channels and i can browse play each one. SAGE only finds the "Primary" such as 3.1, 4.1 and doesn't find the 4.2, 4.3 etc. HELP!!!!!! Thank you very much. I've been through all processes defined, removed frq files. Do not find any scn files to remove. Last edited by inghamb; 11-25-2009 at 07:22 AM. |
