Are these two files nescessary or should they be deleted.
The 'QAMScan' files are necessary. They contain Channel-to-Frequency conversion data.

since I can view this station (530) fine in VLC I was thinking that I should also recieve it in SageTV.
The SiliconDust Channel Wiki shows it as detected.

Cable systems will sometimes carry stations but not include them in their numbered lineup on STBs due to conflicts or disputes. This one looks like it should be in the clear... but for whatever reason the driver that the HDHR is providing to SageTV doesn't want to decode it.

Update: the first post of this topic now has a link to an updated TSSplitter.ax file, which has a fix for a "No Signal" problem where a channel that could be viewed via the HDHR Channel Editor could not be tuned in SageTV. See the first post for the link & instructions for replacing the file.

Anyone having issues with Service Mode? Using the latest Beta, tssplitter, dll update, STV update, restart, I can tune channels with my HDHR when NOT in service mode. If I start Sage in service mode the digital channels no longer work. Channels from my analog tuners still do, not Digital.

Also, tried to setup my HDHR using QAM, and my HVR-1600 with OTA.. Not real successful. I could get them both to tune channels, but when both were setup at the same time I was never successful at mapping the two sources into something useable. The HDHR channels would change the HVR-1600 channels, etc.

It works fine for me in service mode.

Are you using Vista, by any chance, and because of UAC and VirtualStore, different files are getting used for service & non-service modes? Maybe the service is using files in the SageTV directory, while the non-service mode is using updated files in the VirtualStore.

Nope, I am using XP and my copy of Vista is sitting on the edge of my desk with me hoping it might fall in the trash... It would never tempt me to install it again that way...

Anyway, I looked. No directory somewhere else. I will probably just re-install and do my initial setup using service mode and see what happens. I set it up initially this time not in service mode. When I got it working then I tried service mode and "No Signal"....

I was doing all this screwing around because there are a couple of channels that I wanted to use with QAM, but they have no, or improper guide data. The same channels have guide data using OTA. Setting up my OTA tuner got me the guide data. Then I setup the QAM stuff, and mapped the OTA guide data to them. That worked, and yes I e-mailed Sage and let them know about the missing data in the cable lineup.

Thanks, I think I will go to bed now before I start hanging upside down like a bat.....

I don't think you need to reinstall. I think you just need to run it and set it up in service mode. I run in service mode and have no issues but I had seen before if I fire it up in non-service mode it was like it had never been setup.

Does this happen to fix the HDHR streaming out full bandwidth? (~38Mb?)

I don't know why service mode vs. non-service mode would treat the HDHR differently on XP, since they would both use the same sage.properties file & store files in the same path. If someone knows knows the answer & maybe what I'm forgetting, that would be good to hear.

Not that I know of; I think this file is just for playback.

I have seen the same type thing in the past with my analog tuners. This is different. This time everything is there, all setup, it just gives me "No Signal" on my digital tuners when in service mode, and works when I'm not. The analog tuner works either way..

I have tried to set it all up again in service mode with the same result. I even re-scanned my HDHR so it would update the.scn files in Sage.. Weird...

Are you using network paths for your recording directories? maybe the service doesn't have permission for those paths & the analog files are going to a differnet recording dir for some reason.

I can't get the FRQ files to generate, despite running the scans. Any pointers on resolving that?

Here is where I am at:
  • Everything works in HDHR/VLC
  • I've been using the HDHR in VMC for over a year
  • I've disabled the VMC services
  • The SCN files are being generated properly

Also, the channel scan in Sage takes forever - it seems like it's actually trying to scan the channels, instead of just remapping the SCN file.
Thanks!

That indicates to me that SageTV is not seeing the scn files, or at least is not seeing the correct ones.

Since you are using Vista, where are the scn files located? Do you have UAC enabled? Are the scn files in the SageTV install directory, or are they in the VirtualStore? And, are you using sevice mode? If UAC is off, or you are using service mode, move the scn files to the SageTV directory where sagetv.exe is located.

Nope, no network paths for recordings. I just slicked the whole machine and re-installed from an image. It all seems to be doing what it is supposed to now. Still not having much fun getting my OTA, and QAM lineups remapped so they have the same channel numbers but I'll play some more..

Anyway, the stuff this thread is about seems to be working fine. All the channels scanned in the HDHR setup showed in Sage with the right info..

UAC is turned off, I don't think I'm running in service mode (I've been "out" of Sage for about 4 years, so I'm not really sure what that refers to), and the files show up within the "C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV" directory in Windows Explorer. The SCN files appear to contain correct data.

Make sure all the instructions from the first post of this topic have been followed, including selecting Cable for the tuner type in SageTV. Turn on debug logging & post your logs, including the native log.

The scanning was an ID-10-T error. I followed the HDHR instructions, but, where it set "Set Antenna/Cable", I was following the old directions to use Antenna (and I need QAM). Now it scanned and mapped properly (it seems). I performed the scan for both tuners - was that correct?

However, I cannot tune the channel in Live TV. The logs are attached. The FRQ is:

Have you updated the TSSplitter.ax file?

How many channels did you try? Did the View button in Channel Setup work for any of them?

Yes - I updated TSSPlitter.ax (and I rebooted to be safe).

I tried all 7 channels (4.1, 5.1, 7.1, 9.1, 20.1, 26.1, 50.1). They all appear in the guide. All 7 (plus others) work perfectly in the HDHR Channel Editor (via VLC).

Not sure if this is relevant, but I'm running the Sage service.

I'll pass along the logs. Do you also have the sagetv_0.txt log from the service?

Oh, and is the recording directory a mapped drive letter? The service can't access mapped drive letters. I don't think I saw a UNC path in the log, but I might have missed it.

onlydarksets: it was suggested that you reinstall the HDHR drivers, since SageTV is having problems using the HDHR's BDA driver. 20080727 is the latest version & can be found on the HDHR forum.
