So, is this purely a SageTV problem... or is it a Windows Vista problem??

Using the same codecs/configuration in Windows XP, will the playback be smooth??

It's not a problem with either OS. It just takes advantage of Vista's superior video rendering for higher quality video playback. You can "force" XP to use this technology, but it still may not work with applications that talk directly to EVR.

I wonder if the new thread below indicates sage is "on the path" towards EVR...?

SageTV Demux Beta for Windows w/ Accurate Seeking

Code:
It's a new Mpeg2 Demultiplexor DirectShow filter for Windows. This component is used when playing back any MPEG file in SageTV or SageTVClient for Windows. The one that comes with V6.4.8 and all prior versions has an issue where it does not seek accurately to the desired time unless the file was encoded with constant bitrate. One of the main issues this relates to is inaccurate seeking with ComSkip for digital TV recordings or HD-PVR recordings.

The main features of the new demux are:
-Accurate seeking
-More efficient
-More compatible with different audio/video decoders
-Supports all the same formats as the prior demux
-Rearchitected from scratch to enable more advanced features (yes, we'll be adding smooth FF/REW to this component in the near future)

That is unfortunate. Hopefully v7 will have EVR support, and it will coincide with my HDPVR purchase.

That seems to be the case at my house. I have two similarly powerful machines; my desktop running Vista and my HTPC running Win XP. They do have different video cards but with all the same codecs the Vista box does not play video perfectly smooth (in Sage) as the XP HTPC does. Yet another reason I am glad I rolled back to XP on the HTPC...

Of note, the Vista box plays the recorded HD files perfectly in any other player beside Sage..

See HD-PVR h.264, XP, Vista, Demux, Overlay, VMR9, EVR, DXVA 1/2, What I know... for more details.

Guys, I wouldnt get hopes up posting +1's in this forum thread. You're not going to see a change in their priorities and respective development speed of this feature no matter how badly people want to see it; even with the increasing popularity of Vista SP1.

I recommended implementing this feature about a year and half ago (when most people did even know to ask for this feature). They've been aware of it for some time.

All I can say is if it was easy to implement, you would have already seen it in BeyondTV and Microsoft's own VMC.

Okay, I take it back.. they have it. But the fact remains we still wont be able to get them to change their priorities or their development pace; even if everyone and their mom posts here. Try suggesting to their support and see what kind of answer your will get

Regardless of whether it helps or not, another +1 from me.

Speaking of ass, boy does Bigten Network HD look like it for football. Very weird motion artifacts with CoreAVC which is the best I can get without EVR. My Dad was in town this weekend. I had to hear once again, "What's wrong with the picture? My Dish box doesn't look like that."

Even Media Player Classic Homecinema has support.

Maybe there's a developer out there with some free time who can make sage use Windows Media Player or Zoom Player as a SageTV Media Player Plugin. I'd love to do this myself, but my honey do list is miles long, and the boss is already tired of me messing around with SageTV.

I'm pretty disappointed, just bought Sage Media Server for WHS, a client license, an HD PVR, and a new Directv slimline satelite and receiver to get Mpeg4 hidef, and I can't get smooth playback. Pretty disappointing to know if I went with any other software, I wouldn't be having problems.
