Question ITV HD

Has anybody figured out how to add ITV HD to a dvb s2 card in sage. I have a technotrend s2 3600 with BBC HD working fine but I can't seem to add ITV HD.

I added the settings manualy, however it doesnt work at the moment so its pretty pointless.

If you wanted to try yourself then I've provided the info you need below.

Is this because ITVHD is transmitting in H222 format? Maybe it's a decoder issue?

I think so. I wouldn't think it would be difficult to fix and I have sent a sample to sage support but I wouldn't think it will be high on their priorities.

I have read elsewhere that although it is said to be H222, it is in fact H264

http://forums.gbpvr.com/showthread.php?t=35168

Can this be frigged in sagetv somehow to get it to work?

AIUI H222 is the transport stream format which is why it won't work in sage. As you said, the video is still H264 with ac3 sound

This is the best info I have found on ITV HD so far, it seems to suggest that an override within software can fix this;

Quote:
AIUI the references to H222 are a red herring. All H264 video broadcasts on satellite in Europe are also H222 - H222 is the standard for carrying H264 video streams in an MPEG2 transport stream - which is how Sky HD, BBC HD, C4 HD et al. broadcast.

The difference between ITV HD H264 and BBC HD H264 is that the ITV video stream is not flagged as a standard H264 video stream and is instead flagged as a private data channel. If a receiver just looks for H264, MPEG2 etc. video streams it will ignore the channel, as it doesn't "see" any video stream and doesn't know what to do with the private data.

However - some receivers, and PC software apps, allow you to override the automatic detection of streams and force the box to look at a particular PID for video content. If you can do this you can get ITV HD.

The video stream itself appears to be bog standard H264 video (not sure if MBAFF or just PAFF extensions being used) - it just doesn't say it is.
Would it not be possible to add something to a setting in sage to say ignore the H222 flag for this channel and just handle as a standard one?

Is the all just academic anyway, as once it officially launched in may drop H222 anyway?

It officially launched some weeks ago but they are wanting to make ITV HD a freesat exclusive, I believe that is the reason for the encoding - ie it stops sky boxes tuning in.

Brilliant. I've just added the channel and updated the files you posted.

I also noticed that Radio Times now does EPG for ITV-HD. I downloaded for that channel and there are 4 shows over the next 2 weeks - the bill, the bill, the bill and the commander.

I hope they find something more interesting to show in the near future .....

the files in the zip over write existing ones, i think they are in sagetv/common

I just added in to my FRQ.

I used XMLTV for the lineup, as a user above said, and the radio times grab now has a entry for this channel, which is good, as i could never find anyway of find what itv progs were actually HD

Also FIVE is due online 18th November too, just heard.

A day or so late as one of the silence of the lambs file was in HD the other night.

Great stuff moamoa, just have to wait for something to be shown to see if it works.

Thanks

Edit: It does work as I get the "This service is currently unavalible"

Do I have to rescan after doing the mods? I've stopped the service, swapped the files and added the line to my technotrend frq file; saved it, and restarted the sage service. But when I go to channel Setup I have no ITV HD listed.

What are you using as your lineup? I always had problems editing the frq file when I was using the OTA guide, and it never seemed to detect manually adding new entries to the FRQ file. I now use XMLTV as the guide, so this is now not an issue.

Rather than adding a new entry to the FRQ, try changing an existing channel it has picked up (one that is not used or does not work) to the tuning settings for ITV-HD. That way when you select channel XXX it will actually tune to ITV-HD.

Maybe this will help.

John

Have you added the files to sagetv "common" files. I made the initial mistake of adding the files to sagetv/sagetv files.

It's possible I did the same. I just found 2 files that matched and replaced them. I'll have another look tonight.
On the plus side, whatever I did, it's stopped a horrible stuttering problem I had with live tv meaning I could only watch recordings.

I'm using Digiguide and xmltv for my sky lineup.
