To people using multiple HD-PVR's...

Any trouble using the supplied Hauppage blasters with both units? In fact, is there anyone on here with multiple HD-PVR's that are using the supplied blasters? I'm just concerned as I'm setting up my 2nd unit this weekend and I'd hate for it to "blast" a channel change to both tuners at the same time!

Thanks for your help.

You have never been able to use multiple Hauppauge IR blasters or receivers; only 1 can be used to control 1 box.

You should look into another blaster, such as the USB-UIRT, or see if you can use serial or firewire control with your STBs.

Sorry for the confusing wording. I meant just use one PC with 2 HD-PVRs; each HD-PVR will be controlling 1 set top box each with their respective supplied Hauppage blaster. I was under the impression that most people with multiple HD-PVR's are doing things like firewire/USB-UIRT channel changing - I was just curious if people have any problems with 2 units on the same pc just using the supplied blaster(s).
Thanks,
Shawn

I'll try again: On a single PC...

This is also noted on p. 254 of the SageTV PDF manual.

Ok. Looks like I need a USB-UIRT. I just didn't want you to think I was trying to control TWO HD-PVR boxes with a single blaster or anything silly like that.

Does anyone know the best place to purchase a USB-UIRT?

*Edit* Just ordered one from the SAGE STORE Online. Nevermind!

So, new question for those with THREE HD PVR's.

I have a USB-UIRT on the way, and I'm going to pickup the stereo/mono cable at radio shack to control 2 of the 3 HD-PVR's with the USB UIRT.

Since I have other A/V equipment in the area that is being blasted with IR, should I just use the supplied Hauppage blaster with the 3rd HD-PVR? Anyone running this setup?

Shawn

What kind of STB's do you have? Firewire channel changing is great if yours are capable of it.

BTW, the USB-UIRT is capable of controlling up to 3 boxes. The front the the unit has an IR blaster built-in. If you want to go the IR blaster route, you will probably want to make some tents to cover the IR receivers on the STB's.

Aloha,
Mike

What do the tents do? Aren't the receivers set to different IR codes?

That would depend on the capabilities of the STB. It is just good insurance to help prevent response to stray signals.

Aloha,
Mike

As far as I know, only Dish Network uses different remote addresses. If you are using Dish, You can set each box to a different remote address, and use just a single IR Blaster to controll all your boxes. If you are using DirecTV, you should look into serial control. If you are using a cable STB, try looking into firewire control.

I will be using Directv's H21 Mpeg4 HD receivers, and they only have USB on the back (no serial ports).

shield: try this link for the proper adapter. On the site they have a list of receivers on which it'll work. http://www.patersontech.com/products/

On that page click the Click for more information:USB TV Translator then the compatability tab

You need something like this... assuming you have a serial port on your motherboard. If not, then you'll also need something like this.

EDIT: Beat me to it by THIS--> '' <--much!

I'm sure it works fine, but I just forked out $52 for the USB-UIRT. I don't want to spend another $100 on two Patterson devices. I'm getting close to running out of USB ports already, and don't feel comfortable plugging in the HD-PVR's to a USB hub.

I appreciate the help though. I should be good with the USB-UIRT.

I have read (though not confirmed) that you can use a basic USB-> Serial convertor on the DirecTV boxes, connected with a null-modem adapter to the serial port on your computer. Certainly cheaper than the patterson, if it works.
