FireDTV: Some pre-purchase queries

Hi All

Thinking of purchasing a FireDTV unit to tune in FreeSat services to compliment my Sky subscription and have a couple of Sage compatibility queries;

1. To use this device with sage, is it recognised as a tuner natively or is it necessary to use the DVB Network Encoder?

2. In either case (above), I presume Sage can tune channels on the device directly (USB-IRT or similar not required). Correct?

3. Are multiple units supported in Sage? Any problems associated with having two or more FireDTV units?

4. Are there any guides to setting these units up with Sage?

Many thanks in advance

Peter

I have just set up Sage with 2 x FloppyDTV-S2 tuners from the same manufacturer (Digital Everywhere). Both connect via Firewire & the FireDTV unit is basically the FloppDTV in an externally powered box whereas the FloppyDTV can be fitted within the PC case. So my answers should apply to both FireDTV & FloppyDTV devices.

It's recognised natively using the supplied BDA drivers. It's a very good idea to confirm that all is working OK with the supplied software first (FireDTV Viewer which is a customised version of DVBViewer).

Yes.

I have two units & don't see any problems with adding more. In fact I may try it if I can fit the other two FloppyDTV-S tuners that I own into the PC case.

Not as far as I know. It took me a while to figure it out but much of the fruit of my mistakes can be found here http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35302
