Unhappy SageTV Service takes 12+ minutes to load.. and hangs all other services

Hi all,

This just starting happening (see below for my debug log). But when I restart my PVR, the Sage Service takes around 12+ minutes to load!! And while it's loading it stops other services like VNC, my ftp server etc.. from loading. Any idea what might be going on??

As you can see between 23:55:51 & 0:06:53 there is zip in the log, can I increase the JVM heap size or such ? My wiz.bin is only 23MB and that seems small from what I've read..

If you want to try increasing the max heap size, do a tag search on the forum for "heap". If that doesn't do anything, then I would contact support for their suggestions.

I tried changing the value to 512mb for max heap, no dice. Same issue. I'm in the process of submitting a Bug Report.

Is your HDHomerun working? When my dad's died (power supply) Sage sent the CPU to 100%, and would not show (or record) upcoming shows. As soon as the HDHomerun was back online, Sage was fine.

It might be unrelated but... for a long time I've experienced problems with starting Sage as a service upon startup. I'm not sure of the exact cause but the solution/workaround has been to delay the start of the service. See this thread for details.

Mick.

Yes the HDHR is working perfectly thank god And yeah I do not have the defective power supply already checked that.

I can tell you that if I stop / start the service once windows is loaded that it works fine, so I'll check out your thread.

I've experienced this same problem for years now I always just chalked it up to old oversized wiz.bin

Just a suggestion, not sure if will help or not. It souunds like you have somekind of race condition. Are you running anything that might interfere with Sage?

Try this. Set the server from starting at boot. Reset machine, and wait, just for giggles, 5 minutes. Then, using the server control, start Sagesever. Does it still hang for 12 minutes? If not, there must be something in your startup. If it does, it 100% Sage. At least then you know where the problem is.

Yes I've tried this and confirmed it doesn't have the issue, however trying to determine what SageTV is waiting for is next to impossible considering nothing has changed on this box for a LONG time. I'm trying out the batch file mentioned on the other thread we'll see how it goes

I set the service to manual and I'm now using this batch file. Everything is working now. I dono there must be a service tying up Sage when the PC boots. But NO other service is slow when Sage is set to manual.

@echo off
echo Starting SageTV service Please Wait....
echo This will also launch the SageTV interface
echo Waiting 30 seconds...
ping -n 30 127.0.0.1 > nul
@echo on
sc start sagetv
@echo off
start "d:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\SageTV.exe"
