it's the HDHomeRun files that are giving me the problems. in fact I think it screwed up a live recording I had of the BCS football game yesterday. Doesn't look you're using ArcSoft decoders though (no HD-PVR in the mix) so maybe that's where the issue lies.

Here it's not a tuner problem here. It's a playback problem. I never watch in real-time. Always reprogrammed (with the commercials removed). Every single recording that I tried to play back had the same file system error message -- both HD-HR and Hauppauge. Gave me a moment of panic at first since I just added a 1 TB video drive and moved all of my video files over there -- thought that it had just bit the dust ! Then I remembered the new demux file and went back to 24 .

Actually, I do use the Arcsoft decoder for mpeg-2 from my HDHR. I guess I should also mention I'm on Vista ultimate (2 clients with SP1, 1 without) and I'm using EVR. I use Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 for H.264 from Dish HD. And, I don't think it matters, but I use ffdshow for audio. AC3Filter works fine also.

Hmmm, I don't use commercial skip. Does everybody that is having problems use it?

Qian,

I have revision 16 working well with 6.4.7 but the newer versions (.24 and .27 specifically) return an error when I attempt to play a .mpg file, either SD or HD. the error reads:

Code:
There was a Playback Error in playback. Details:
sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-3, 0x800736b1):
There was a problem accessing the filesystem for
playback.
Not a big deal for me, I'll upgrade to 6.5 soon enough but I thought it might provide a clue for you.

Lynn

The latest version of the mpeg demuxer is locking up more than any other previous version for me. I'm switching back to the last official release.

Sorry for my mistake

Thanks for robogeek and phelme's log, I just found I made a mistake posting a debug version MpeDeMux.ax, which makes trouble.
please redownload a new one http://download.sage.tv/users/qian/6.5.6/MpegDeMux.ax version (2.0.1.28, minor change over 2.0.1.27)

Thank you, Qian! That did the trick. I had unregistered the previous working mpegdemux.ax file while trying to register the 2.0.1.27 file, so I had to 'regsvr32 MpegDeMux.ax' from the command line to register this new file. I haven't tested it out extensively yet, but so far I have no problems to report

seems to have fixed my issues as well!

(I was wondering why x.27 was 200K larger in size)

No luck here, still FF and REW doesn't work on live programs.

Sage demux seems to be really sensetive to very fine details of the recorded file structure. For example, I had an issue with recording from a particular channel: the UI got stuck for several minutes till the file reached certain size. I had several sessions with Sage support with no luck.
Finally, I discovered that this phenomenon was happening because of certain layout of PMT structure (DVB subtitle descriptor appeared before any audio descriptor, this way the're defined by my satellite broadcaster). So I had to modify the recorder to fix these PMT packets. This fixed that issue while Sage support couldn't even come close to understanding why it was happening.
Why on earth this kind of issue should affect the demux? As long as the recorded file is compliant to TS standard, the demux should be able to handle it...

No good here either. Just a blank screen and no sound. I'll have to go back thorugh this to see how to create a log for you...

Edit:
Ok, it just made a liar out of me. I put the MPEGDEMUX_LOG.ENABLE file into the main sage program folder, restored v.28 of the demux and it worked just fine! And (just in case it was the logging that made it work...) I deleted the demux log and renamed the enable file; reloaded sage and it still worked (and didn't create a log file)! SO, I don't know what happened last night, but it's seems to be working now. I'll put the enable file back and if it fails again I'll have a log.

Is it a necessary to unregister the filter before you slip in another version, then register it again? I have just been shutting down sage and replacing the new demuxer in without a problem.

Just to add in my experiences, I have separate problems with both 648 and 656

Problem 1
648 - upon channel tune for live TV on a DVB-T it is super fast, apart from the 5% of times when it will lock the UI with the spinning wheel of death which never timesout and required task manager process kill

656 - seems to be alot more susceptible to spinning wheel for up to 20 secs, but it does unlock eventually, I presume after a client based timeout

Problem 2
Seeking in pre-recorded material. This can give me the permanent wheel of death in both 656 and 648

This happens on all client PCs I have, the lounge media center has just Vista 64, Xfi drivers, ATI 4350 drivers plus ffdshow (for audio) with sage or MS mpeg2 codec (no Powerdvd install), which is a new vanilla build.

I do not think you have to unregister/register the files. I have just been dropping them in, without issue. I think you would get an error message, if you needed to unregister/register.

Re: Seeking in pre-recorded material.

I have been testing this last version, and am noticing the same thing. I thought it had been fixed, but watching a 2 hour show last night was painful, as when I skipped forward, sage would still show like it was playing the file, but there would be no sound or video. If I rewound a bit, or stopped and started the file, it would be fine again. I had to do this maybe 5 times during the 2 hour show.

Same issue here with 2.2.28. Frequent no video or sound issues. Reverting to 2.2.24.

I just submitted another round of logs to Qian. I thought things were working well and didn't have any issues at all on Sunday. But yesterday and today I've had a seeking error again by clicking the timebar...this happened on a completed live tv recording. And occasionally upon playing a recording or seeking after playback has started will cause SageTV Client to hang for about a 1 to 1.5 minutes. No audio or video, spinning circle hangs for a little over a minute, then playback starts or resumes. These problems are intermittent and I can't seem to reproduce it on-command.

Is this update only applicable to the client or does it need to go on the server (or both)

Thanks

Sagetv 6.5.7 RC

Windows Updates
1. Added 'ffdshow Audio Decoder' to list of filters to detect
2. Regressed the MpegDeMux to the one used in V6.4.8
3. Fix: Technotrend CAM/CI support code broken

Sounds like this is too much trouble to deal with in this round of betas.

Well, I've had one of two freezes with the latest beta from this thread, but to me that's still preferable to the old behavior where skips were not even close to being accurate. I'll keep using the beta demux.

Same here. I despise the old 6.4 demux. Actually even though it froze sometimes my most accurate demux was 2.0.1.19 I'll be using that one for now. With the latest beta demuxes I've been having inaccurate skips after jumping through comskip marks once in a while. Especially shows on CBS HD.
