Noob Question regarding DVDs

All,

I've happily entered into the land of PVR..

I have a couple easy questions I hope.

1. To play back on regular TV (not my monitor) what video setting should I be using.. ? ie DVD Long Play ?

2. I plan on burning some of the programs onto a DVD+RW and at times DVD -R. In relation to question#1 should I use a different video mode ?

3. Related to question#2, do you know of any good programs that will allow me to (gasp) edit out the commercials in order to shorten the length of the file.

4. This is more of a "how do I burn a DVD+RW" question. Which software works the best ?

1) In general the highter the better (of course I'm running an HDTV).

2) Andy of the DVD modes should work, just figure out how much you want on a disk and give it a shot.

3) Womble MPEG-VCR.

4) I've been a Nero person for a long time, that's all I use to burn disks. As for authoring a DVD I'd just use whatever comes/came with your drive unless it doesn't meet your needs.
